First it was Google, then twitter and now it is Microsoft that received 75000 requests from law enforcement agencies of different companies in the last year. Microsoft itself is publishing the report of requests received concerning privacy of people the first time on its website.
According to the report, 75000 requests were received by Microsoft from different countries around the world. But Microsoft objects that it only replied to a total of 2.1% requests. And all other 98% were not replied to at all. When asked Microsoft what type of information it provided to companies, It said that it only provided to law enforcement agencies the login names and IP addresses. Microsoft also added that law enforcement agencies ask that who uploaded that image or what some person did on his computer.
This is not the first time any internet company is receiving any request for user privacy. But since 2010, the requests are rising in number. This fact brings us to the point that these requests are obviously helping law enforcement agencies to catch criminals at a faster rate.
But the question still remains of the privacy of normal users who are most of the time affected by their privacy. Because their privacy is shared by law enforcement agencies, and as the question of privacy goes, all people are tracked and monitored by government agencies that keep to themselves all the information.
The act of SOPA and PIPA in 2011 was an act that was deflecting the privacy of internet users. But in comparison the data inquiry by law enforcement agencies is a big gap in between lines.
Take example of face book or any other social media site, even other websites of manufactures and search engines do not have clear policy that states such information. What they have is a big junk of policies and terms and conditions that no potential internet user tries to read. And just ticks the check box provided at the end to get his account registered.
A conclusion to such an issue is a big one and companies could not even provide a clear solution to such act. Because if they protect user privacy then enforcement agencies will object on the other hand if they do not then normal public will…
