Songwriting is something that gets easier through practice just like several different things in life. When you have been writing songs for some time, your brain becomes accustomed to coming up with music ideas by itself and gets in a system where it's constantly working trying to come up with great great lyrics and melodies all by itself. If you are not there yet yourself, there are other things that you can do to kick start ideas for songwriting which I make use of frequently.

In this article I am going to talk about 3 ways to generate ideas for songwriting.

The first of these ideas for songwriting is to come up with a specific genre or micro-genre (as I prefer to refer to it) where you wish to write a tune in the style of. If it helps you, envision a specific artist who you are a fan of and want to compose a tune in the style of.

When you have some music ideas about who you wish to sound or write like for that specific idea, that will begin to release some of the walls which were holding you back to start with. In this way you're songwriting with a great deal more structure versus having an idea which could go an infinite quantity of varying ways as in song composing having too many options can typically hamper progress on a song.

Another one of my preferred ideas for songwriting is to plan to write a song which revolves around a specific hook. Take into consideration which instrument will voice that melody whether that's a a harmonica part, a guitar solo, or more commonly a vocal part.

When you commit to fleshing out a hook through a certain voice like that, creating a hook will be that much easier and after that the rest of the tune will come about. Song composing isn't forever about cutting corners like this technique involves, but occasionally it's just about getting to it. After you have a structure you can take that and make alterations to it later if you want. Just starting out on an idea makes moving into adjoining sections of that tune a great deal less difficult.

I have one more very effective idea for songwriting that is a technique I use to teach musicians as being amongst the single most effective ways to start a song idea out of nothing. You can make use of this method if you're entirely new to song composing or if you have done it for a long time; plenty of accomplished and talented songwriters use this technique on a day to day basis to come up with some of their most well-known tunes.
