When I say the word “salesperson” what thoughts immediately rush into your mind? Take a moment to write them down. Now think of yourself in the role of salesperson for your product or service. Write down the emotions that you experience. If you are having difficulty expressing the emotions, visit the free tools page on my website and take a look at the energy barometer. There’s a range of emotions that you can choose from to help you identify how you feel about yourself when in the role of salesperson. Do your thoughts and emotions about being a salesperson for your product or service give you high or low energy? Many women entrepreneurs have an immediate negative reaction to the word salesperson. This reaction comes from limiting beliefs surrounding their perception of salespeople. If I had to name one thing that keeps women entrepreneurs from being successful, this is it! It’s holding on to limiting beliefs that salespeople are pushy, pests, that don’t take no for an answer. If you have a negative perception of salespeople, then when you step into the role of salesperson in your business, you project those same limiting beliefs onto yourself. "You cannot perform in a manner inconsistent with the way you see yourself." ~ Zig Ziglar This quote from Zig Ziglar says it all. No matter what you are doing, other people will know by your words and actions how you see yourself; the truth of what you believe about yourself in that role will be obvious to them. If you believe salespeople are pushy and don’t want others to perceive you that way, you may not talk about your products and services in a powerful way. You may even miss opportunities completely. To grow your business, it’s time to examine your beliefs and consider shifting your limiting beliefs about salespeople. Follow these three steps to tap into your inner power and release your limiting beliefs about selling: 1. Get very clear about what’s wonderful and unique about you and your product or service. Write down everything that makes you the perfect provider of your product/service. Think of all the benefits your customers receive when they engage you or purchase your product. Consider and write down what motivates people to buy from you – what you offer that they need. Once you’ve done this, you will see why it’s important for you to let people know about what you have to offer – they need what you have! 2. Get very clear about how you want to BE in the role of salesperson. Not all salespeople are pushy pests. Limiting beliefs like that are what keep people from creating their own vision of themselves in the role of salesperson for their product/service. You can BE the way you want to be. View my latest TV episode - Release Limiting Beliefs on my show Sales and Marketing from the Inside Out to find out the steps to do this. It’s only a few minutes long, but gives you the exact steps to establish your being as a salesperson. 3. Replace your old limiting beliefs with a new belief. Based on the work you did in steps 1 and 2, you can now create a new powerful belief about yourself when in the role of salesperson for your product/service. You might want to create an affirmation to help you stay in alignment with your new belief until it becomes natural for you. An example affirmation could be: I am confident, authentic, attentive and considerate when I present my services/product to people who are excited about what I have to offer and are willing and able to purchase from me. Replace the attributes that I used with the words you put on the Contrast Brings Clearness form during Step 2 so that your affirmation represents how you intend to BE. Use these three steps to tap into your power when you are in the role of salesperson.
