If you constantly experience a ringing, hissing or whistling sensation in your ears, you may be suffering from Tinnitus. One of the most effective treatment options for this symptom is called Tinnitus Therapy. It has been used for so many years now and a lot had benefited from it. To give you an overview about this type of treatment for tinnitus, some techniques will be discussed in this article.

Vibrational Therapy is one of the most common and widely used options of Tinnitus Therapy. ADM Tronics had come up with a relief device that has the capacity to stimulate the hearing nerve endings which had been damaged with the use of a broadband frequency that surrounds the tinnitus frequency. The objective of this treatment option is to retrain the brain to stop the production of that same level or intensity of sound. This treatment procedure is ideal for patients who are suffering from damaged hearing nerve endings caused by the natural aging process. This is one of the highly accepted causes of tinnitus and occurs predominantly in individuals who are 60 years old and above.

Tinnitus Retraining Therapy is also a popular form of Tinnitus Therapy. This treatment option consists of two major elements. The first one is counselling and the second is sound therapy. In the counselling part, the patient is being informed about the condition. The psychological and physiological factors are explained so that the patient will be able to understand the course and cause of tinnitus.

The second element which is the sound therapy is conducted with the use of a device which produces white noise at a very low volume. This is primarily done to mask the ringing or hissing sensation in the ears caused by tinnitus. The main objective of the sound therapy is to enable the brain to ignore the signals which cause the tinnitus noise. This form of Tinnitus Therapy consists of several treatment sessions wherein the patients can expect to be free from tinnitus, or will have the ability to ignore it, in as little as 6 months or as long as 24 months. The range for treatment duration is significant because the severity of tinnitus for most patients vary to a great extent. The cases can be mild, moderate or severe. Moreover, patients respond differently to treatment; therefore, one patient may require more treatment sessions compared to others.

Phase Shift Tinnitus Reduction Therapy or PSTR Therapy is another innovative treatment option for tinnitus which was pioneered by Drs. Daniel Choy and Arpad Fejos from the Tinnitus Control Center in New York City. The program consists of several phases; first is the identification of the patient’s tinnitus, second is done with the use of innovative equipment that matches the volume and frequency of tinnitus, third consists of 30 minutes of sound cancellation therapy; in the last phase, the patient is given a customized CD that features the sound cancellation that suits the patient’s tinnitus symptom. This CD can be played using a high quality stereo system at home based on doctor’s instructions. As much 83% of patients had responded positively to this form of Tinnitus Therapy which makes it a promising option to consider.
