Although parenting is arguable the most important job in the world, it is, ironically enough, one of the few jobs that comes with little to no required training. (Not to mention no pay!) Anyone, after all, can be a parent. Faced with such an important job, where can parents go to for guidance? If your child must take a maintenance medication regularly on a daily basis, you should always check the pharmacy label and directions upon picking up each refill. It is not uncommon for physicians or nurses to increase or adjust the dosages as your child's age and weight increase. Reviewing the instructions at the time you pick up the medication is your best bet and can save your child from health risks. Praise your children. Some parents are very good at focusing on the negative, but forget about the positive. When a child is praised it lets them know that their parents love and appreciate them. It also makes them more likely to repeat positive behaviors. Try to look for something to praise your child about at least once a day. If you have a teenager of pre-teen that is unhappy with their weight, the best thing you can do as a parent is convince them they are fine just the way they are. Many teenagers turn to eating disorders, such as bulimia and anorexia, because their parents are not supportive. If you are about to have a baby, do not go out and spend thousands of dollars on nursery equipment. Cribs, blankets, changing tables, and items of this matter can be purchased for cheap at department stores like Walmart, while also providing high quality. You could also ask family or friends if they have any nursery products that they are not using. Your child will more readily try new foods if you include him in the preparation. Ask your child if he would like to help prepare dinner sometime. He can tear lettuce for a salad, stir pancake batter or whatever tasks are age-appropriate. Children feel a sense of pride when allowed to participate in meal-preparation and almost never turn down the chance to sample their creations! One of the most important pieces of parenting advice is to remain consistent. If you reprimand a child once, you must do it every time that incident occurs. If you praise a child once, the same is true. Lack of consistency makes a child feel insecure and confuses them. Consistent behavior does the opposite. In order to have a proper developing toddler, it is important that they get many hours of social interaction. A great idea to get this done is for them to enter a preschool. This way, they can meet other children their age and build their knowledge basis at the same time. Being a parent can be simultaneously the most rewarding and stressful job imaginable. The benefits of a job well done, so to speak, are indescribable, but the average parent struggles from time to time with fears and concerns about their parenting skills. We hope the suggestions presented in this article have been helpful to you - you are not alone!
