You should make a list of two or more companies to check out before hiring one.

Check references

Before hiring any company to work on your air conditioner ask for references and then check them out. Find out if the customer has any complaints about the company or the technician sent out to work on their air conditioner. Find out if the work was completed on time and to the satisfaction of the customer. Find out if the technician was on time. Ask if they would recommend the company’s services.

The reason is that they have been through two –three years of schooling that includes classroom and on-the-job training. Not only do they have to have the schooling to be certified they also need:

• To be members of the Better Business Bureau and in good standing
• To be a member of the Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA), which is a group of contractors who are working together to promote good practices, keep buildings and homes safe, comfortable, and clean, and improve their industry

Making sure that they are certified will help to ensure that you are working with a reliable air conditioner contractor who knows what they are doing.

Interview the contractor before hiring

Before bringing them into your home to install, work on, or maintain and service your air conditioner you should feel one hundred percent certain that they will do the job correctly. Some of the important questions that you should ask can include:

• What training, if any, does their company have to make sure that they are staying on top of updated tools and techniques?
• How long has their company been in the air conditioning installation and repair business?
• What is their guarantee policy?
• Can you supply references?
• How do they charge? Is it by the hour? Is it by the job? Is there a mileage charge? What is the cost for emergency and after hour’s calls?

Always ask for a bid so you can make comparisons with other companies you are checking out.
