In order to have a healthy and lasting smile, it’s important that children learn the best oral care routines during their youth. The younger that they are, the more likely it is that kids will keep up with brushing their teeth for years to come. On the other hand, if kids don’t understand how important their oral health is, it’s possible that they’ll have a lot of problems with their teeth and gums in the future. For oral care visit www.honestfamilydental.com One of the best ways to ensure that children keep up with their oral maintenance is to ensure that they enjoy what they are doing. After all, kids will be much more eager to learn and keep up with the care if they find it fun and entertaining. In order to make sure that your child likes brushing their teeth and will keep up with their oral health, here are some tips to consider. Get The Right Sized Brush The first thing that you’ll want to consider is the overall size of the brush. Many people assume that bigger toothbrushes are the best way to go, as this covers more space in the mouth. However, this isn’t the case with children. This is because children have much smaller mouths and they often can’t accommodate a large-sized toothbrush. If a toothbrush is too large, they won’t be able to reach certain places in-between their teeth and gums or at the back of their mouth. But before you go to grab a small toothbrush, realize that this too may not be an ideal option, as it may not be large enough to accommodate your child. Instead, consider an age appropriate toothbrush where the size of the brush matches the size of their mouth. If you are still uncertain as to what option is best, consider contacting your dentist to get their opinion on what type of brush would be best for your child. Softer Or Harder Bristles? If a child is uncomfortable while brushing their teeth, it’s unlikely that they’ll want to keep up with the routine. Therefore, you should consider the strength of the bristles for the toothbrush, in order to make sure that they aren’t too painful. If a toothbrush has overly strong bristles, there is a concern for damage being done to the gums. However, a toothbrush with softer bristles will allow for the gums to develop naturally as they need to. Is It Easy To Hold? Not only should the bristles be comfortable, so should the handle of the toothbrush as well. Your child needs to find a brush that is easy and comfortable to hold. If they don’t, then their hand could get cramped and they’ll find it uncomfortable to brush their teeth for the recommended time of two minutes. Therefore, consider the handle and how easy it is to hold for the child. Make It Fun The handle of the toothbrush should be comfortable, but also know that it should also be fun. If your child loves a certain super hero or fairytale princess, you’ll be able to find these options at your local grocery store or supermarket. If your child loves their toothbrush because it has their favorite character on it, then it’s likely that they’ll have a much more enjoyable time while brushing. Set A Timer Another option for the toothbrush that you buy your child is one that has a timer built into it. Many toothbrushes will come with a timer that plays their favorite song or melody while brushing. Not only will this keep your child entertained, but it’ll also make sure that they are brushing their teeth for the appropriate amount of time every day. The more that you can do to make your child enjoy brushing their teeth, the less likely it is that they’ll fight you whenever you tell them to go clean up. With the tips here, your child will have a toothbrush that will entice them to take the best care of their teeth possible.
