However, since visiting yoga studios and other group workout settings is extremely ill-advised at the present time, you may feel compelled to put the beginning of your yoga journey on hold. Fortunately, there are a number of ways to make your introduction to the world of yoga less harrowing – even if you’ll be riding solo.

Procure the Right Equipment

When compared to other popular forms of exercise, yoga is fairly minimalist. Start Small

As is the case with any form of exercise, practice makes perfect when it comes to yoga. The longer you stick with it, the more flexible you’ll become. Still, when you’re just starting out, you’re likely to experience a few growing pains as you get accustomed to your new workout routine. With this in mind, abstain from overexerting yourself and going too big too early. Attempting advanced stretches and poses as a beginner is liable to result in extreme discomfort, if not outright injury. So, no matter how eager you are to advance, you’ll need to start small and work your way up.

Make Room in Your Schedule

Crazy schedules are among the foremost detriments to staying in shape. Because of work responsibilities, family obligations and other inescapable facets of daily life, many of us quickly fall out of step with new workout routines. However, as previously stated, regular practice is essential to honing one’s yoga skills, and you’re never going to get better if you don’t practice. If your daily schedule has prevented you from practicing as often as you should, make an effort to clear out some time. Granted, for some people, this is easier said than done.

If you enjoy morning workouts, consider getting up 30 minutes to a full hour earlier than usual and devoting that time exclusively to yoga. Alternatively, if you prefer to exercise at the end of the day, going to bed a little later than usual may prove beneficial to your yoga efforts. It’s easier to make room in even the most jam-packed of schedules than you may think.

Attend Virtual Yoga Classes

When it comes to staying in shape, some of us do better in structured environments. With an instructor overseeing your progress and keeping us on the right path, getting better at yoga may seem considerably less daunting. However, since the COVID-19 pandemic has made gyms and other gathering sites unsafe, attending an in-person yoga class at the present time is extremely ill-advised. This is where a good virtual class can prove helpful. If you’re interested in real-time learning, consider signing up for a live virtual class. Conversely, if your schedule doesn’t allow this, you can use a pre-recorded class or online instructional videos instead.

It’s easy to see why yoga is among the most popular workout activities in the world. Among other benefits, it increases flexibility, enhances balance and alleviates back pain. Of course, as is the case with many fitness routines, yoga can seem daunting to newcomers – especially when a once-in-a-century pandemic has compromised the safety of gyms and yoga studios.
