Your child is ready for potty training. He or she has decided to ditch the diapers and start wearing either pull-ups or underwear. Children love to imitate their parents, which is why potty training doesn't have to be all that difficult. With just a little patience and understanding, your child will be potty training in no time. I always made going to the potty something exciting for my daughter to do rather than it being a drag. I would sit on the toilet while she sat on her little potty chair and we would see who used it first. It may sound a little silly but it actually does work. Make sure to stay away from any overalls, belts or leotards. Switch to clothing that will be easy for your little toddler to take off when its time to use the potty. Wearing anything that is difficult for children to take off can cause an unexpected uh-oh to happen. Of course, the child is only going to use the bathroom when he or she has to go. Watch for any signs that show that it is time to immediately rush to the bathroom, such as squirming and squatting. Always remember to praise children when they use the toilet and make sure the child washes its hands after using the toilet. This helps them associate washing their hands with going to the bathroom, which is an important habit for them to develop. Children will try to climb out of the crib to use the potty and they can potentially hurt themselves. That is why it is a good idea to switch from crib to toddler bed or twin bed during potty training. First thing first, child proof the bedroom. Make sure outlets are covered and large furniture is mounted securely to the wall. Also, make sure mini-blind, drapery, and curtain cords are well out of reach. Before purchasing the new bed, you can lower the crib mattress as far as possible, so the side rails are relatively higher and more difficult for the child to climb over. Make the switch from crib to bed exciting for the child. Purchase the new bed together. Purchase bed sheets that your child will love to lay in as well. Not only does the bedding have to catch their attention but must also be very comfortable for your little one to sleep in. 100% Cotton is always best choice. Once the bed arrives at home, get the child comfortable by allowing him or her to play on the bed and even take short naps. Before you know it, your little toddler will be happy to sleep alone in his or her new bed.
