There are many reputable courier companies out there who cater to the needs of businesses and private individuals alike. They specialize in shipping packages, both within a specific country and internationally, safely and on time. While they’re a little more expensive than the standard postal service, this expense is offset by the reliability and security they provide. rnThey use a variety of specialized equipment to do their job. Since they handle millions of items each day, they need specific tools that can help make doing their work easier and more efficient. Here’s a quick rundown of the more common items they employ rnPadding Material rnShipping companies use a variety of padding materials that are meant to cushion fragile objects while in transit. Styrofoam peanuts, bubble wrap and cardboard tubing are all used in the same way. They are designed to shrink against pressure during impact and expand back out in order to prevent the shielded item from encountering any hard surface. They protect against collisions as well as surface abrasions. rnJacks rnIn big warehouses, they use large wooden trays called pallets to move stacks of loose objects around easily. Pallets are designed with grooves that fit the forked arm of motorized jacks and lifts that are used to relocate the supplies from one corner of the room to another perfectly. For smaller moving chores, there is also a hand pallet jack that needs the operator to physically crank a lever in order for it to work. Though it lacks an engine, it functions on the same principle as its bigger cousins. Shrink Film rnShrink film, also called a blister pack, is a special kind of plastic sheeting used to protect the surface of oddly shaped objects. When heated, the thing shrinks around an item’s every nook and cranny, providing a tight, protective and waterproof fit. It comes in both thick and thin varieties for a wide variety of applications. Steel Strap rnA steel strap is used to strap down heavy parcels during transit on ships, planes or trucks. It has just enough give to sway with the natural turbulence while preventing the parcel from sliding around all over the place. Steel straps have excellent tensile strength and are flexible as well as durable.
