Most of us would agree that the first impression is a last impression. Nobody would want to go wrong with their first impression especially during an interview. Many people are confused about interview dress etiquette. Always remember, it is best to be over dressed than to be under dressed for an interview. Right choice of clothes can boost one’s confidence and vice-versa. Here, are some tips that may help in dressing adequately for an interview.

Do not confuse your interview outfits with your party outfits. One must dress formally for an interview. Men may wear conservative suits. Women may wear pant suits or skirts with a formal blouse. One must stick to solid colors like black, grey or navy blue for suits. One can never go wrong with these colors. Men can wear a well coordinated tie along with a full sleeve shirt. Women must take utmost care while selecting the skirt and blouse. Skirt should be of appropriate length. Anything that is too revealing should be avoided at all costs. Stick to conservative blouse in solid color or pastel shades. Avoid wearing anything flimsy or ultra fashionable. Remember, that your dress should not distract the interviewer. One should always keep the interview clothes ready at least a day prior to the interview. Ensure that the clothes are neatly pressed and are devoid of any stains or lint.

Keep the jewelry to a bare minimum. Men can sport a classic watch. Women can sport a bracelet or a watch with a pair of conservative earrings. Choose ear studs over chandeliers or hoops. Your shoes should be black or brown. Footwear should be clean and polished. One can wear mid length calves. Women may wear skin colored or black stockings. Avoid wearing spiked heels or sneakers. Wear the footwear that fits well.

Women can wear their hair in a bun or a pony. Men should keep their hair short. Avoid jazzy hair styles for an interview. Do not sport a disheveled look. Men should trim their facial hair. Being clean shaven is the best option. Do not bathe in perfume. Avoid strong perfumes at any cost. Strong perfumes can be discomforting for many. Restrict excessive use of after shave too. Ensure that the nails are trimmed and well kept. Women may sport light or neutral make up. Steer clear of loud lip colors or nail colors. Do not forget to wear your smile.
