It is not unusual to be absorbed with fears about the future, knowing that you have been diagnosed with a life threatening disease. You may often feel surrounded with questions like “Why me?” or “What have I done to deserve this?” and many others. Getting diagnosed with breast cancer causes physical and mental breakdown in patients and their families. It is overwhelming, and it can instill a great amount of stress and anxiety. The first step to recovery lies in pulling yourself together to fight against the disease. In this article, we share some tips that will help you cope up and survive breast cancer. Give Yourself Time- The first and foremost thing that people often overlook is taking their time to adjust to the shock. As soon as you are diagnosed with breast cancer, you may find yourself caught up in the web of treatments, medicines, doctors, tests, etc. However, we advise you to take your time to come to terms with reality. This will help you understand your feelings and the entire process around you. Get Comfortable With Your Medical Team- You are going to spend a lot of time with your doctors and nurses. Try to clearly communicate with your doctor and find out ways to work together for easy recovery. You can help the doctor to develop a treatment plan that suits your comfort. Also, try asking questions about your treatment process. Find A Hobby- There’s no right time to learn and grow. Tough times like these may leave you with bitter experiences but may also be a good time to do something for yourself. Try developing new hobbies or picking up old hobbies like movies, gardening, painting or anything that interests you. This will keep you distracted from stress and also help you learn new things. Communicate with Close Ones- establishing strong relationships with your family members or friends may help you cope up with unresolved thoughts and emotions. There may be times when even your close ones cannot understand you completely, but that does not mean they are not ready to help. You can start by sharing your thoughts and feelings with them. Talking to other survivors is also a good idea since you can relate to their experiences and might feel connected to open up about your emotions. Remember Who You Are- You are a strong fighter. That’s who you are. Breast cancer may change your lifestyle or your appearance or your day-to-day life, but it does not change who you are. Try following a normal routine, take small breaks, have fun with friends and keep reminding yourself that you can out beat this disease. Coping up with breast cancer may be difficult and can result in mental fatigue and depression. But it’s also a good time to reflect back upon your past and think of all the things that you have always wanted to do. Keep yourself busy in exploring new things, make a plan for yourself and stick by it. We wish you a healthy life ahead!
