It is vital to make the time to do nice things for ourselves, especially if you happen to be someone who devotes much of your time to the care of others. If you are one of these people then you are well aware of just how easy it is to neglect ourselves which all too often results in being stressed, run down and exhausted.

Despite what you may think pampering yourself does not mean that you are selfish. Making the decision to care for yourself properly and treating yourself with the same kindness that you treat others with will go a long way in helping you to cope with life in general. We devote much of ourselves to the care of our significant other, our kids, pets, friends, family, and colleagues that it is sometimes easy to forget we need time too. As if our plates aren't already full many people then go further by volunteering their time for others without realizing that they are neglecting themselves.

Taking care of yourself should really be a priority in your life or else there is a tendency to keep pushing our own needs to the bottom of the list. Make an appointment with yourself each day or, if that is unrealistic for you, then once or twice a week will do. Do whatever you need to to ensure that there won't be any interruptions. Commit this time to yourself even if it is only one or two hours.

Although this might prove tricky in the beginning because you are likely to experience feelings of guilt you must be diligent. Do not allow yourself to make excuses such as there not being enough time. If this is in fact true then it is even more reason to devote that bit of time just for yourself. Even if it means sacrificing something to make the time, do it! You need to understand that you are worth it and that you deserve it. Keep at it and don't give up. With practice you will find that you will soon see and feel the benefits.

Sometimes you need to say "no" to other commitments so that you can set some time aside for yourself. Many people actually take on responsibilities that are not even up to them and there are reasons for this. We want to be liked and we don't want to disappoint others. We want to be of assistance to other people. Sometimes we just find it really difficult to say "NO". Having this kind of mind-set causes us to be a people-pleaser but it can and does result in some serious issues if we assume too much responsibility and neglect ourselves.

It is an unfortunate reality but people will take advantage if we allow them to. They might not do so intentionally or even realize that they're doing so. Likewise they also may not be aware of the fact that we do not really want to do what they ask us to do but if we never say no how are they to know? After years of struggling to please everyone it might be time to say: "I apologize, I would like to help you but I am not able to." It can be as simple as that. Of course you might feel like disaster will result but you will find it doesn't. The person will simply approach someone else for assistance. Did you ever consider that it could be that easy?

Of course there might be people in your life who have grown accustomed to you doing everything and this might result in a bit more resistance than otherwise. But you need to be determined to make time for yourself so you need to make up your mind to choose to either please everyone else or rather put yourself first for once. Decide if you matter, if you're worth your effort. You need to know that you are!

Go easy on yourself. Unless you take a stand and determine to give yourself some TLC nobody else is likely to. Look within and discover that unique light that shines in all of us. Unless you nurture that light it will burn out and that would be a great shame.

Bubble baths with candles are great for relaxing. Nature will help you feel more centered. You might decide to pamper yourself with a manicure or pedicure or an invigorating massage. Listening to music is proven to help relax you as are the sounds of nature. Spoil yourself by enjoying a meal out or window-shopping. Keep a journal and record your hopes, dreams and aspirations. Watch a funny movie or read a good book. Take an evening stroll or stand yourself something new. Have a make-over or even get a new hair style. Go dancing or have a snooze. Write a letter to yourself and even go so far as to post it! Learn something new like dancing or take up a new hoppy. Tell yourself every day that you are a beautiful human being who deserves your own kindness. Tell yourself that you are worthy of love and that you love yourself.
