Let’s face it; people don’t like insects even though they were here long before we were. However, there are actually some that are more annoying pests than others. Some of the most annoying are as follows:

Mosquitoes

These pests are able to fly a long distance in search of food. The females feed on feed on warm-blooded animals. Once engorged with this blood she will then look for a place to lay her eggs. These eggs need to be laid in a place that will allow the thousands of eggs to survive. The best place for this is your outdoor garden barrel or in a rain barrel. Not only can this be annoying because of the itchy, welts that they can leave behind but they can also be dangerous in that they may be carrying the West Nile Virus. This is a nasty disease that can cause fevers, headaches, fatigue, body aches and a skin rash.

Ants

Ants need to have plenty of food and water in order to survive. This is why they will usually build their colonies close to these resources. Whenever they are left untreated they will rapidly expand and thus go in search of new homes. However, it can be difficult to treat ants since their diets and habitats can vary so much and know this information is vital. While there are sprays, baits and dusts available, it may require professional help to actually get rid of these backyard pests.

Outdoor Gnats

These gnats (also known as midges, biting flies, punkies and no see ums) will drive you crazy with their swarming and biting. This can be enough to actually ruin an outdoor gathering. A great repellant for these pests is DEET. While it will leave an unpleasant odor and make you feel greasy, it works well. Another good gnat deterrent, although to a lesser extent, is a citronella candle.

Flies

There are a variety of different sizes of these winged insects and thousands of different species too. They are hazardous to your health as they carry numerous types of diseases, which is why people associate them with poor hygiene and why it is important to deal with them effectively. One way of doing so is with an electric fly killer placed where flies continue to come back. Herein it is also helpful to figure out why these flies are continuously returning so that you can then deal with the issue.

Fleas

Fleas are wingless insects that mainly feed upon the blood of dogs, cats and humans. Some of the various problems that they can cause include:

· They can quickly multiply to infect your entire home and life. · Fleabites will irritate your skin and make it itchy. · Fleas are able to give your pet tapeworms. · If your pet is allergic to fleabites then these bites can lead to allergic dermatitis, which can cause hair loss and other skin complications such as infections.

Conclusion

These are just some of the many different types of pests that you will encounter in your backyard this summer.
