Top 7 Reasons to Celebrate Everything
One of my big missions in life is to see everyone celebrate themselves. When my clients walk in the door of my office or speak with me on the phone, the first thing they hear me say is, “How are you?” I mean this in the most sincere sense of the phrase. The second questio
I always ask is, “What happened since I saw/spoke with you last?” This is often perceived as the most important question. It is not.
The most important question is, “How did you celebrate that?”
No matter the outcome of the first and second question, the third question holds the most valuable information for potential personal growth.
Too often, we forget to celebrate ourselves, our accomplishments, our failures. Yes, I did just say that we fail to celebrate our failures. They hold a wealth of information for us, if we can see past the short term pain or discomfort.
The events of our past hold little value for us unless we take them seriously by honoring them, accepting them, and giving thanks for them. This is celebration.
Celebration does not always mean holding a party, or feeling intense happiness. It is the simple act of honoring ourselves.
Here are the top 7 reasons to celebrate yourself:
1. When we celebrate ourselves as a whole, we put our priorities into perspective.
2. When we celebrate our accomplishments, no matter how small or insignificant, we remind ourselves that we are worth celebrating.
3. When we celebrate our failures, we acknowledge the truths that emerge while gently offering ourselves forgiveness. This kind of celebration is the beginning of self-compassion.
4. When we celebrate ourselves, we are better able to see ourselves in a truthful light – the kind of light that encourages positive self image, courage, and confidence.
5. When we celebrate, our psyche is in a better frame of mind to honestly, deeply connect with others.
6. Celebration gives us something to look forward to, especially when times are tough. As we make celebration a daily ritual, we naturally and easily find big and small events to look forward to. Looking forward in this positive way creates hope. Hope is the inner light that creates life.
7. Celebration is good for your soul. It is just plain joy-full! There is no cost, and you do not need to be a reason to celebrate; life itself is worth celebrating!
So, go ahead, celebrate something today!
