Essential Tips for Gardening Tool Care
- You can simply rinse soil by digging tools after a single use you can make a stop through garden hoses. Later on you can dry the tools thoroughly. A stiff brush can be hanged through the tap that would make room for even better cleaning.
- This is recommended for placing bucket of sand moistened with motor oil within the garage, and this would quickly dip tools in the abrasive, lubricating mixes after a few times of use. However for the next mix of motor oil residue and soil you can make use of linseed oil instead.
- Cleaning gardening tools with linseed oil is effective for wooden handles. You can easily place a rage through the sand bucket for providing quick wipe for wood tool handles, too. Note: Don’t wag any oil soaked rages, especially the ones soaked with linseed oil, or else you can put these in enclosed container as there is ample of combustion risk. The rag can be dried between uses, and after disposing, you can thoroughly dry it first or can soak it through water before you place a closed metal can. After application of linseed oil it’s better to let it completely dry out before using the tool. Through this way the solvent can easily get evaporated.
- One thing that needs to be kept in check while preserving garden tools is to never put these in spaces with higher moisture. The tools must not remain wet for a long time and these have to be completely dried before storing and preventing handling and rusting of rod. Once each garden season is over, you have to rub linseed oil inside wooden handles after preserving these.
- Sharpening cutting tools and shovel blades at the time of gardening season would be a fine thing to consider before you commence with the work. A perfect way to sharpen your wet tools is to use whetstone or hone which is right for sharpening cutting tools. A file must be used for removal of nicks and smoothen the edges of trowels and shovels.
- Wiping metal parts after each use of shears, pruners and loppers through oily rags would be good measure to take better care of your tools. Alternatively, the dry tools can be wiped out through the help of clean rags, and then you can lightly spray tool exteriors through the help of penetrating oils.
- If you store your hand tools or other portable tools in small gardening tool kits collection, you can use packets of silica gel. These would help in bringing the moisture out. When you don’t have any packets? It’s better to have a crystal kitty litter. This is purely made through silica. You can place old bandanna and the tie ends together so that no one would fall out. When the tools are damp, you can take these and spread them out in sun. The heat can “recharge” and silica can be used again for further storage. Dust particles shouldn’t be inhaled.
