Everybody likes and appreciates youthful looking skin; however, as we age our skin loses its elasticity and wrinkles and frowns begin to occur. There are several tips that will help you get youthful looking skin such as getting a good night's sleep.

1. Lack of Sleep can Cause Wrinkles and Sagging

Getting a good night's sleep is not only important for the inside of our bodies but it is also important to keep our skin looking good and free of wrinkles and sagging.

To be clear, our skin repairs itself overnight. If a person doesn't get enough sleep, the skin is unable to take care of damage that occurs during the day.

In addition, sleep deprivation also puts our bodies into a stress mode, making it produce more stress hormones. To counterbalance this, try to get at least seven hours of sleep at night and turn off all electronic devices a half hour before going to bed.

2. Depression harms the Skin

Clearly, depression can be seen in our behavior but is also shows up on our face. Over a period of time, a frown can become a permanent part of our face.

Depression also weakens collagen fibers, which weakens the ability of our skin to repair itself at night. Most importantly, when we feel depressed, we often let our complexions go.

To combat depression, exercise on a regular basis and talk with your doctor or mental health professional on how your depression can be treated.

Other measures that can help are taking an antidepressant or a cosmetic procedure as Botox.

3. Watch those Sweet Treats!

Most everyone likes sugary foods; however, too much sugar can be bad because it breaks down collagen and elastin--fibers that support the skin--which later leads to wrinkles and sagging.

To combat this, cut back on soft drinks and candy, honey, white rice and white bread. Instead, try eating a square of dark chocolate or some yogurt.

In addition, add more vitamin C to your diet, as well as drinking plenty of water.

4. Tension is bad for the Skin

We all know how destructive stress can be in our lives. It can lead to a heart attack or stroke, put you at risk for diabetes or lead to depression.

Most importantly, too much stress can make you grimace or frown, sometimes without even noticing it. In time, these frowns and grimaces can leave permanent lines.

This can be prevented by exercising regularly or practicing Yoga. If you are unable to do these exercises, try taking short walks or riding a stationary bike.

5. Up-and-Down Weight can harm the Skin

Putting on weight can make your face look plumper; however, carrying excess weight can break down the collagen in your body.

In addition, by repeatedly losing and gaining weight, your skin will take a toll, leaving behind jowls and stretch marks.

To prevent this from happening, keep your weight at a normal range and consume a healthy diet of nutritious foods such as salads, fruits and vegetables, whole grain bread and soups.

6. Watch out for the Sun!

Most everyone loves the sun and swimming but too much of it can make your skin age like nothing on this planet! The rays of the sun dry out the skin and damages the upper layers of the skin.

To counterbalance this, drink plenty of water, limit your time in the sun, use sunscreen liberally, avoid alcohol and salty food--which dehydrate the skin and apply a rich moisturizer at night before going to bed.

7. Minimize those Marathon Workouts

Many like to jog or bicycle long distances and that can be good because it lowers stress and anxiety.

However, if you frequently bicycle or jog long distances, you are exposing yourself to a great deal of sun which can damage the very structure of your skin.

You can lessen damage to your skin by using lots of sunscreen and using a good moisturizer during the day and at night before going to bed.

To conclude, everyone ages; that is a fact of life. However, by following 7 tips to get that youthful skin, you will have youthful looking skin. Try one or more of the above tips for younger looking skin, and enjoy the results! Youthful looking skin is beautiful. Don't let the sun and other irritants take away your beautiful skin.
