Top Five Reasons People Fail to Lose Weight – and How Hypnosis Can Help

As a professional hypnotherapist specialising in weight loss I’ve met all sorts of people who are keen, interested, and even desperate to lose weight.
They’ve tried all sorts of diets. They’ve failed on all sorts of diets. By the time they come and see me they’re willing to give almost anything a go!

So why do traditional diets fail? Based on my experience of treating clients over the years here are my five explanations – and most importantly, my solutions.

1.) Lack of motivation. Despite seemingly every woman you know moaning about her size and shape – in reality most people aren’t really serious about losing weight. The perception is that losing weight is difficult, will involve ‘missing out’ on foods you love and will automatically mean depriving yourself. With hypnosis this needn’t be the case, the choice of how you change your behaviour is entirely up to you as you are completely in control of your own actions through the power of your own unconscious mind.

2.) Dieting not Eating. The billion dollar diet industry has been misleading you for the last few decades. You don’t lose (long term) weight when you diet. Yes, I know, that’s contentious and is the subject for another article – but the truth remains that research has shown that only 2-3% of people who lose weight on a diet will actually keep that weight off for the long term. When you restrict your food intake in some way by dieting you deprive yourself. The mental deprivation comes from knowing that as soon as you know you aren’t allowed something you want it more - and eventually give in and have it! The physical deprivation comes from knowing that as soon as you can eat it again (you come off the diet when you reach your goal) you start eating it again and the weight goes straight back on. Hypnosis can help you achieve natural, healthy and balanced weight loss through modifying your food choices, eating behaviour and view of your body.

3.) Unrealistic Goals. Many of us want to be the perfect size and shape, just like the models and celebrities we see on TV and in magazines. In most cases these people spend massive amounts of time, effort and money – and may be blessed with wonderful genes too. We all want to look beautiful, slim and attractive, oh, and by the end of next week please! And yet we are already all of these things – it’s just that sometimes we forget. Losing weight is frequently about wanting to look good. It’s also about feeling good too. Hypnosis can help you really value your own beauty and self worth, and then develop better habits to help you achieve those things from the inside out, as well as outside in!

4.) Giving Up Too Soon. We want to be thin – now! As soon as diet a, b, or c doesn’t work for us within two days flat we give up. “It didn’t work for me”. And yet the excess weight we have has taken many months, even years to build up. Hypnosis takes immediate effect. The moment you listen is the moment you start changing your mind and therefore changing your behaviour, and then the result changes automatically. And okay, maybe you won’t be 14lbs lighter by the end of the week – but I have had results from a client of 7lbs in a week before now! Oh, and she said it was the easiest thing she’d ever done! 5.) Not Eating Healthily. Most people will never get thin on chocolate, alcohol and fries because they’re full of ‘empty’ calories that provide no nutritional value. The good thing about many traditional diets is that they encourage you to eat healthily – plenty of fruit, vegetables and foods that are naturally low in fats. Hypnosis can help you make the right choices that are good for your body, mind and weight loss – and still allow you to eat the foods you love too!
