It is often said that music is the food of the soul. Everybody loves some genre of music and is motivated by sound. As different as we are by face, so are musical preference disparities. Our interest in particular sounds or types of music can be likened to our fashion or dress sense. While some go with the trend, some have specific tastes. So it is when it comes to musical instruments. For people who want to learn musical instruments there are wide arrays to choose from. When it comes to guitars, there are different types of guitars ranging from classical to electric guitars. To someone who is new to guitars, every guitar looks the same. A professional however judges a guitar by its shape, size, make and feel. This translates to and determines the chief determinant of guitar quality; the sound it can produce. In general, guitars are similar in look and sound so a novice who wants to learn how to play can find it difficult to differentiate and choose appropriately. When looking to acquire an electric guitar the first revelation is that there are different types of electric guitars. There are the classical types that have nylon strings, which are best for beginners and produces classical, bossa nova and jazz sounds. The second is the acoustic that possesses steel strings and largely produces acoustic rock, jazz, country and folk music. Next comes the bass guitar; this is a more professional type that produces country, heavy metal and rock music. Before we set out to buy one of these instruments we should consider the type of sound we want it to produce and what exactly we want to master. This will greatly influence our choice of guitar. The body of a guitar should be a consideration before buying one. There are different body types ranging from the solid body type to the chambered body, semi-hollow body and hollow body. All these body types are designed for various purposes and influence the weight and sound quality of the instrument. Another critical factor to be looked at carefully in purchasing is the neck of the instrument. The neck of a guitar is generally made of different kinds of wooden materials. The length of a guitar neck also determines the spacing between the frets. The connection of the neck to the guitar should be looked at properly to guarantee quality sound. Other things to look out for include the strings, pickups, control switch and bridges. When you discover a quality guitar, do not delay in paying for it. Don’t be hesitant to plug your guitar and check for the sound quality. Whatever the beauty it is the sound that is the ultimate goal of buying one. Try and buy from authorised dealers. Ask for a warranty card when buying. It is likely the ones with longer warranties are the best buys.
