If you find yourself feeling trapped or depressed, then trust me you are not alone. There is however a simple and effective way to not only overcome your fears of leaving a comfortable situation, but also broaden your horizons. Traveling the world is a simple but effective way to find new experiences, improve your happiness, and begin to enjoy your life a little more! The first thing you must remember is that traveling does take a little preparation, both financially and mentally. When you go traveling you really do want to make the very most of your trip. Save up enough to prevent any financial disasters you might find yourself in while you travel. There are plenty of stories out there about people who traveled the world, working their way along, finding odd jobs and surviving in cheap countries. However in my personal experience even cheap countries can turn out to be expensive, and finding jobs is not always easy unless you can shell out several thousand for the paperwork. If you have been in one place for several years you will need to fight a little fear. In essence you will need to break through the 'comfort zone' to put yourself in a new situation. This is not always easy, but it IS always worth it. Breaking out of your comfort zone helps you to face your fears, and find out just how other people live. As you travel to different places and see different things you will appreciate a certain kind of freedom. But to get out there you do need to face that base fear of leaving behind what you know. A great way to mitigate that fear is o do a little research. Look out for guidebooks that suit your interests, try downloading an iPhone city tour guide, or meet some of the locals online before you go on a trip. Knowing a little bit about the places and the people you will see on your travels will make you appear as less of a tourist, and it will help you see the real side of a city, rather than just visiting a hundred identical tourist traps. Visiting the less known areas, the real side of a city, will give you a much greater experience than you would have by staying surrounded by more of the same. If you are not careful you may find that you have encircled the globe, but never actually left your comfort zone! If you find yourself feeling comfortable wherever you are in the world, then it is time to stretch yourself a little, seek out something new, and find out more about the world around you! By keeping this in mind you will be able to expand those horizons, enjoy your travels more, and change your state of mind to encompass the experiences you will have on your adventure!
