Study says that around 40% of the population gets sciatica pain at any one time of their lives. Any kind of pressure put on the nerve causes the pain which starts from the lower back and moves down to buttock or thighs. It might feel like a mild attack, a burning sensation, weakness & tingling and can lead to an extreme discomfort to the patient. The suggested low back pain treatment as sciatic includes regular exercising and taking suitable pain killers.
Sciatica is a kind of pain that happens in the lower extreme of back due to the irritation of sciatic nerve. This nerve being the largest nerve in our body gives the pain in lower back to thigh and ultimately reaching below the knee. It’s sometimes referred as sciatic nerve pain and the treatment for sciatic pain depends upon the cause and the severity.
Sciatica Symptoms:
The major symptoms of having sciatic pain are:
Numbness, weakness and tingling effect.
Continuous pain and burning discomfort in lower back till upper buttock reaching up to the thigh.
All the pain leads ultimately to button pain, leg pain and even lumbar pain.
Causes:
The major cause discovered for sciatica pain is the direct pressure of lumbar disc herniation on the sciatic nerve. Any kind of irritation developed can lead to sciatica. The irritation of nerve generally takes place due to abnormal intervertebral disc which is termed as radiculopathy. Some other causes of sciatic pain are irritation caused to the nerve by adjacent bones, muscles, any kind of internal bleeding, tumors, injury or infections. Also, at times sciatica pain can also be cause during pregnancy.
Treatment:
Having sciatic pain makes it difficult to walk or bend. Thus for low back pain treatment, it’s always suggested to lie down and take proper rest at intervals and keep changing your position. A few of the suggested treatment for sciatica pain are:
Painkillers: Some over-the-counter (OTC) painkillers are very effective ones in low back pain treatment. The painkillers which are known as NSAIDs i.e. non-steroidal anti inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen and paracetamol are highly suggested for the treatment.
Exercise: The more active you will remain; the pain of sciatica will hurt you less. Resting or lying down can give you some temporary relief but an active person can treat this pain.
Compression Packs: Usage of hot or cold compression packs is another treatment for low back pain. A cold compression pack can be easily made by wrapping frozen peas in a towel.
Medicines: As discussed, there are different kinds of medicines and painkilllers available and suggested for Treatment of Sciatica Pain such as aspirin, ketoprofen, paracetamol etc.
