Anxiety attacks can leave a person full of fear and despair, causing him or her to be in constant worry about their condition. With time, lack of treatment can cause a person suffering from anxiety attacks to lose self-esteem and confidence in themselves. However, there are several ways to deal with such disorders, be it medically or through therapy treatments.nnnnFor those who suffer from anxiety attacks, you will find that the incessant worry and fear will slowly erode your self confidence and reduce your quality of life. Thankfully, anxiety disorders are treatable, and can offer you relief from the symptoms and eventually, the disorder as well. There is a range of treatments available, including medication, therapy and alternative treatments. These can be administered individually, or in a combination. nnnThere is a variety of medications prescribed for anxiety disorders, such as anti anxiety drugs, beta blockers and anti depressants. Medication may seem like a quick fix, but it only cures the symptoms and not the root of your anxiety disorder. Hence, it is often prescribed in conjunction with therapy. nnnCognitive behaviour therapy focuses on your cognitive thought processes, and your therapist will be able to help you to pinpoint the root of your anxiety disorders, as well as to dispel negative thoughts that are preventing you from working through your problems. Your therapy sessions will also help you to control your emotions and fears better, and is a long term treatment that can take anywhere from 3 months to a year to see results. nnnIn addition to the above treatments, here are some tips on coping with anxiety attacks. A healthy and balanced lifestyle can work wonders, and goes a long way towards helping you to combat anxiety disorders. nnn1. Change your Lifestyle nnMake sure that your body receives sufficient sleep, as it needs this time to rest and recuperate. When your body is sleeping, it also provides a break for your conscious mind, and will leave you feeling more refreshed and energized to face the next day. This will help in reducing your stress and anxiety levels. It is also important to get sufficient exercise, at least twice a week. It is not necessary to pursue vigorous exercise, so long as it helps you to distress and unwind. A good example would be yoga. nnn2. Your Diet nnA healthy diet can help you to cope with anxiety and stress better, as it ensures that your body receives the vitamins and nutrients that it needs to function at optimal. Your diet should include fruits and vegetables, and you should try to cut down on alcohol, drugs and caffeine. Alcohol and drugs are depressants, and can often aggravate your anxiety disorders and result in depression. Also, it is not wise to turn to substances to cope with the anxiety or fears that you are experiencing. Caffeine should also be avoided as it is a stimulant which will magnify your feelings of nervousness, and can trigger your panic attacks. nnn3. Protect your Mind nnPick up some relaxation techniques such as meditation, deep breathing exercises and visualization. This will help you reduce anxiety, and if practiced on a daily basis, reduce your stress levels. It will help you to cope with stressful situations as well, relaxing your mind and body before your panic attacks has a chance to kick in. Meditation has been shown to help with coping with anxiety by improving your mindfulness and has many benefits for your body and mind. Lastly, do not be shy to ask for help. Spend time with your family and friends who can give you the emotional support that you need. n
