99 percent of dogs will suffer from diarrhea once a lifetime, at least and many vets see this as the reason for a dog being brought into their clinic than any other reason. While it may show signs of a more serious problem, there are a few ways for treating dog diarrhea at home first.

Treating dog diarrhea that is mild can be relatively simple and can take just a few days. Just follow these few simple steps and you will be on the way to having a happy and healthy dog again.

1. What is the Problem?

One of the best ways to find out how to cure your dog from this kind of problem is to find out what the problem actually is to begin with. It may be that your dog has taken a liking to your trash, which can do no good for its digestion system.

If you suspect that your dog has been eating something toxic from your trash, then take it to the vet straight away. If you know it is just some leftover food, then you can cure it at home.

2. Start Your Dog Fasting

The best cure for any dog is to flush all the bad bacteria or food from the body so that the system can begin to heal itself. To start this, you need to stop your dog from eating solid foods. For the first 24 hours only let your dog eat organic treats (and not too many of them) and ice cubes, so that it does not starve. By now, all the problematic food should be out of your dog’s system and should stop the diarrhea. If that is not the case, call your vet. If it is, then follow the next step.

3. Pumpkin and Chicken

Start the dog on solid foods gently. Pumpkin is good since it contains fiber and helps with the bowel. You need to slowly introduce more food. Starting with chicken is good, but keep it plain and let your dog eat it in small strips. Another common food that will help with your dog’s digestive system is boiled rice; again, keeping it plain.

4. Back to Normal Eating

Now your dog can start back on normal foods, but do this gently as otherwise diarrhea may return due to overeating. However, if the diarrhea does return after a few days of eating normally, take a visit to your vet; there may be a bacterial infection.

If your dog is suffering from other symptoms, such as vomiting or a lack of energy, as well as the diarrhea then speak to your vet immediately. Also, if you are treating dog diarrhea and you see other symptoms appear then go to your vet immediately. There may be a number of reasons why your dog is showing these symptoms and the sooner they are checked, the sooner you have a healthy dog again.
