Sweat, a phenomenon that happens in most absurd places especially when you least expect it. Maybe it's when you hop off the treadmill to go stretch or when you're in a meeting about to make a presentation, or at lunch eating a plate full of spicy habaneros. You feel the moisture developing on your upper lip, under your arms or even in your pants. What's going on and why does this happen? You noticed you are about sweating. Sweating is normal. Everyone needs this bodily function to naturally cool off and get rid of excess heat from working muscles, detoxify dissolved solids, and send sodium (salt) back into the blood to maintain salinity in the body. Excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) is a common problem, especially of the palms, armpits and soles. It actually means that you sweat much more than normal. Even when you are not hot, anxious, or exercising, you make a lot of sweat. It can be distressing and can have a serious impact on your life. In some cases, affected people avoid social contact with others because of embarrassment about the problem. It also causes leading to emotionalas well as occupational, physical and psychological disability to some people. However, the condition is usually treatable. Excessive sweating is not a temporary condition. The sweating is constant and therefore the impact on general day to day tasks can be affected. Excessive can occur almost anywhere on the body and affects all genders and ages, although it is most common in teenagers and young adults. The good news to all hyperhidrosis patients is that there is now an effective, reliable and cost effective treatment of excessive sweating called Iontonphoresis. It is a safe medical procedure that involves sending mild electrical currents through water and into the skin via a special machine. This involves placing your hands or feet in shallow water. The depth of the water should just cover the palms of the hands or soles of the feet. An electrical current is then passed through the water through a special machine. This is not painful but you will experience a tingling sensation to the area during each treatment. This will be mild and short lived. If there is discomfort the current can be adjusted to make the treatment more comfortable. Iontophoresis treatment is given in two treatment phases, the initial therapy stage and then a longer term maintenance stage. The initial phase is given three times weekly for approximately 15 minutes at a time. Sweat secretion should normalize after approximately 10 treatments. The maintenance phase depends on the severity of the condition but will involve one to three weekly sessions of approximately 15 minutes each. The frequency can then be reduced depending on individual symptoms. Maintenance may be required as infrequently as every fortnight or even monthly. You will be able to monitor what time scale is best for you as the skin will start to become clammy again when the excess sweating is returning. Iontophoresis doesn’t require any special or advanced preparation. However, ensure to tell your doctor if you are pregnant or have epilepsy, heart condition, pacemaker or other metal implants, such as artificial joint replacements. You may not be able to undergo iontophoresis if you have any of the listed medical conditions. Iontophoresis is a safe and painless procedure. Some people may experience side effects as a result of iontophoresis, but the effects usually aren’t serious. The most common side effect is dryness of the skin. Blistering, peeling, and irritation might also occur on the skin. However, these side effects can usually be treated by applying moisturizer to the skin after each session. An over-the-counter hydrocortisone cream can also make you more comfortable. Until recently the downside to iontophoresis was that it required a trip to hospital for each treatment session. This can be time-consuming and impractical for some. However, modern machines are smaller and can now be bought for home use. So, if you find that this treatment works for you, you may wish to consider buying a machine to use at home. However, you should take advice from the specialist who recommended iontophoresis for you before you buy a machine. You sweat a lot and you want to improve your quality of life so as not to be embarrassedpublicly, a trial with iontophoresis special machine will absolutely change your life story.
