The time in between seasons, autumn and spring, can be devious. We often let our guard down because of either slowly warming or slowly cooling weather. In first case we are eager to put some clothes down after a long winter and in the second, we try to prolong the warm days as long as we can. Too bad - these acts often lead to cold and flu, which run rampant during that time. You may as well spend the last and first of the good days in bed with fever. Fortunately for you, there are ways to battle early flu symptoms. You don't necessarily have to go to drug store for it, you just need to know a few tricks. Here i will let you know how to treat the flu symptoms at home.
1. Drink more. This may sound like a Matrix advert, but it is true - drinking fluids will help you beat the flu. Often this virus is followed with diarrhea and vomit, which dehydrate your body. Also water can help you urinate and sweat more, which is good for getting the virus out of your body faster.
2. Consume light warm soup. Being more liquid, thus easy to consume, warm soup can help you beat the infection from the inside. Viruses and bacteria hate warmth, so eating a bowl of soup before going to bed is always a good idea.
3. Stick to the bed. Or perhaps, stick to what your gut tells you. Could be literally. If you feel like staying in bed will help you - do it. Take a day off if you have to work. Warm bed, relaxation to your body, plus the mentioned stew can really make your day if you feel ill. Besides - sleeping can temporarily boost your immune system, helping it to fight the virus.
4. One way to ease the nasal congestion is to breathe moist air. How? Try to stay under a hot shower. If you have a shower cabin it will be much easier. Breathing steam will improve your breathing significantly. It is a temporary solution, but sometimes an hour of clear nostrils is better than nothing.
5. Similarly to the previous method, you can boil a bowl of water, put a large towel over your head and bend over the bowl, while it's still steaming. If you can put the towel so that the steam doesn't go out and sit like that for 10 to 20 minutes, you will be feeling and breathing better. You may also add some eucalyptus oil to the water for better effect.
Both things are not to be performed of you have asthma.
6. Try putting a warm compress over your head. This will relieve any headache and sinus pain.
7. Cough drops and throat lozenges can be effective to relieve pain in a sore throat. However, I know some people that might disagree. It's true, even a few doctors say that lozenges may be not that effective, but they are worth a shot if you feel like things are bad.
8. Warm salty water can help you with the mucus at the back of your throat. It collects there if your nose is clogged and you have to breathe through your mouth all night. In the morning - well, you know. Make some gargling with warm water and salt - it will clear your throat and you'll be able to function better.
The main advice - keep somebody at your side while you're ill. A friend or a family member may not cure you by holding your hand, but having someone to make you meals and help you around can make a things easier.
