Trekking in the mountains is one of the most fantastic experiences of life. At least once in your life, you must go for a mountain trek, even if it is a moderate trek. Nonetheless, there are a few things that you need to take care to maintain good health. Smoking is one such thing that you must quit, or at least reduce to stay fit and trek well. Several other reasons are also there that require you to avoid smoking in any form.

Trouble to others

Smoking does cause discomfort to others at any point in time whether it is in cities or villages. It becomes more of an obligation to take care of others' comfort when you are in the purest regions of the world, i.e., hills. Just like everybody else, you go to the mountains to breathe fresh air. By smoking a cigarette or anything else, you not only pollute the air but also defeat the purpose of your visit. Moreover, the locals and even the animals may feel scared of humans just because of the poisonous smoke emanating out from them.

Forest fire

Smoking can be called one of the most common causes of igniting a fire in forests, petrol pumps, and homes. Smokers often forget to douse their cigarette bud after they are done smoking, and it may flare up a fire in fire-prone places like forests on mountains. Since the dry leaves are susceptible to fire, you should avoid smoking at any such place.

Protecting the environment

Most smokers do not even bother to throw the doused cigarette but in the dustbin, and hence create filth in a naturally clean environment. If you are at a God-gifted place, it is your duty to maintain cleanliness and not to litter in any form.

Build stamina

The most obvious reason to quit smoking while trekking is to build strength, which you cannot create if you smoke too often. Smoking weakens the lungs and makes you lose breath too quickly. You cannot trek with your entire strength if you smoke a cigarette too often. The trek will also consume much more time than it should, and hence you will waste your precious moments on the hills.

No drinking

Once you start smoking, which means breaking one of the unsaid rules of the hills, you will feel like drinking as well. Consuming liquor at a high altitude implies risking your life at large. You go to the mountains to relax for a while, not to endanger your life. Even if you feel like drinking liquor, you must not do so while trekking. You can take a few drinks when you are resting at home.

Trekking in India

No matter in which part of India you are, you can always go to the lengths and breadths of the mesmerizing hills. Every state in the country hosts various mountain ranges in and around them. If you are in Mumbai, for example, you can conveniently go for a trek to Amboli, Lonavala, Khandala, Mahabaleshwar, Panchgani, Matheran, Bhandardara, Malshej Ghat, Chikhaldara, and many more places. Self-drive cars in Mumbai are a great option to drive off to these areas and have a good time. However, as said earlier, going for trekking means rejuvenating health, which implies you must stay away from smoking for as long as possible. Indulging in harmful habits not only deteriorates the health but also makes others uncomfortable. When you are in the mountains, just take delight in the breathtaking scenery around you, and forget about what you used to do in the city. Just relax, unwind, and enjoy!
