Today, as I was walking our Westie, Pal, and as we were just about home, I noticed a young girl no older than 5. She was full of life and passion and was surging with energy. The only thing wrong with this picture was she kept tripping over her shoelaces. I smiled and softly laughed for it brought back memories of my daughter, Rosemary, at that age and, if the truth be known, myself in those red-energy teen and college days. Yes, we were fullfledged, card-carrying, shoelace trippers.

You see all of us, at one time or another, just plain get in the way of ourselves. We are in such a rush to achieve, make things happen, be in motion, that we trip over our own feet and get stuck in the doorway, so to speak. It is all about making it happen. We want things two weeks ago. The perception we have is that we are nothing if we are not married, own a home, have the vacation spot, the 2.3 children, and the perfect, well-invested, 401K.

While we are in this state, on the shoe-tripping journey, we are totally unaware of those around us. Communication? . . . forget about that. We are not hearing anything others are saying or imparting. How can we? Our perception is completley focused on the hill we are looking down. This perspective colors our beliefs, and eventually becomes our reality . . . or so we think. And we just keep getting in the way of ourselves.

My advice: get rid of the laces, or better yet, pitch the shoes and take the journey barefoot. Feel the earth beneath your feet. If you sit still enough you can actually hear the heart of the earth beating. Slow down and take time to hear the sounds of silence. Can you hear that tree speaking to you?

Once you take the time to live in the moment, and stop getting in your own way, you will be amazed at what you will manifest. The next time you are frustrated, feeling like you are a hamster spinning in its wheel, look down and check. You are probably tripping over your shoelaces. Slow down, breath, and pull them out.
