Tracy Morgan in critical condition, has been charged with vehicular homicide and injury by auto. The complaint alleges that the truck driver, Roper, had been awake for more than 24 hours, and that driver fatigue caused the fatal 18 wheeler accident. Walmart is investigating the car accident, according to their spokesperson, which occurred on the New Jersey Turnpike. Walmart was quick to defend its employment practices by stating that “it is [their] belief that Mr. Roper was operating within the federal hours of service regulations” when the accident occurred. This deadly truck accident has once again brought trucking regulations into the national spotlight. Many watchdog groups have claimed for years that the regulations do not go far enough to protect the public from catastrophic trucking accidents, which often end in the wrongful death of thousands of motorists each year.
