Two Powerful Words You Used As a Toddler Can Help You Lose Pounds

Do you remember when you were a toddler? Every time your mother or father asked you a question your answer was, “Why?” You wanted to know why the sky was blue and why you had to go to bed, etc. As a parent, if they knew the answer to your question, they would patiently tell you. If they were at the end of a trying day, or frustrated, the most likely answer was, “because. “ Today if you are trying to lose weight, you need to ask that question of yourself. “Why?” Without knowing your why, the reason for wanting to lose weight, you will never be successful.
If you are overweight, you disconnected to the body mechanisms that told you when you were hungry. For a variety of reasons, you have been numbing out. You have been careless, acting on your emotions, thoughts, or the clock, to let you know when to eat. You have forgotten the need to be mindful of what you are doing, to check in and see if you are physically hungry before eating. Without a good reason to change your habits, you are planning to fail. Without that very strong why, it is way too easy to go back to your old patterns.
Make your why big. The key here, is, why do YOU want to lose weight? If you are losing weight to please someone else, you will not be able to stay on course when times get hard. So, give it some thought, what is your why? Is it because you had a health scare? Do you want to feel good about your body? Do you want to be strong and flexible? Do you want to feel confident to get ahead in your career? Do you want to finally fit into your size 6-8 jeans again? Find your why and own it.
That brings us to the second word you learned as a toddler. “No.” You will use this word to help you stay connected to your why. As you focus on changing your habits, there will be conflicting messages. The first will be your conscious why. The second will be a voice in your head. This voice belongs to your Super Ego (SE). It is the job of the SE to protect you by keeping you safe and in your comfort zone of overeating. This is why it is so hard to make changes in your life. By starting to live Thi
Within, you are frightening your SE. When you stop eating because you have satisfied your hunger, you will hear your SE talking to you, saying, “it tastes too good to stop,” or, “I don’t want to waste it.” This is the time to say, no. First, relax, take a deep breath, and say, “No thank you, I am satisfied.” Or, “no, I am going to ask for a doggie bag to take home the leftovers.” Speak lovingly to your SE, as it is uncomfortable with these changes. Over time, this will become your new normal and if you catch yourself saying, “but it tastes so good,” your SE will respond, “no, you are no longer hungry, let’s take it home for later."
With the help of your strong reaso
Why and the Power of No, you will be able to stay connected to your desire to be Thi
Within for the rest of your life.
