There are different causes for dog skin allergies. Just the same, there are also different ways in which they could manifest. The only positive note on this fact is that it is pretty easy to spot when your pet is suffering from skin allergies and so you can easily find a way to help them out.

The most usual type are those caused by insects that bite. The most popular of course are fleas which reside right on the dog's coat. Flea bites can cause allergies not because of the actual bite itself but it is the saliva of the fleas that cause the irritation.

Like humans, some dogs may also be prone to allergies caused by atopy. In here, there may be certain substances that get inhaled and trigger the allergic reaction. These things may be too small to see such as dust mites, molds, and pollen, that the only way for you to prevent them is to make sure you clean your home and where your pet stays often.

People are not the only ones that can get affected by food allergies. Even dogs do. So it would be wise to know what stuff you feed your dogs and to read the ingredients of the kibble that you buy. If you are also introducing a food to your dog for the first time, it would be best to observe how they would react to it.

Dog skin allergies show in many different ways. But regardless of how it comes out, you can be sure that the symptoms are quite obvious. When a dog starts to scratch more frequently than you have seen them do before, with bouts of gnawing, that can already be a cause of alarm and prompt you to inspect what's happening with your dog.

Eventually, the dogs would have red patches obvious on their skin. When you give them bath, those red spots may be relieved and soothed especially if you use a soap or shampoo with special formulation. At this point, make sure that you are also using mild formulation for your dog because their condition is already sensitive.

In its advance stage, skin infections may eventually become dermatitis. This is also a common symptom that is observed when a dog's skin becomes infested with flea saliva. In its advance stage, the skin becomes inflamed with papules and hair loss also happens.

Of course, you should still make it a point to consult a vet regarding these dog skin allergies that would come out of your pet. Tests are still necessary to be able to rule out certain things and make sure that nothing serious is happening to your dog. The vet would also prescribe the right medicine that your dog should take.
