What makes a good leader? What are the qualities that a good leader possesses? Some leaders possess the skills of a leader without any training, whereas some people need to be trained to make good leaders. Not everyone is a born leader; therefore training is necessary for some. What are the qualities that a leader has to possess? rnThe first most important skill that a leader should possess is to be able to manage. Now by being able to manage, we mean manage work, time, people etc. Leaders who are able to manage work are capable of getting work done in an effective manner and are able to meet targets and goals. Those who are able to get things on time are leaders who know the value of time and know how important it is for the organization. This effective time management can give the organization a heads up in its race to eliminate its rival or even gain more market share! Who knows! Those who are able to manage people know how to work with people and know how to make people work for them. Leaders who are able to manage people are those who have good interpersonal skills. This helps the organization is so many ways, one of which is managing the resources of the business. A leader is also supposed to possess the skills of communicating effectively. Those leaders, who are able to communicate effectively, make sure that there is no miscommunication within the organization to keep it from achieving its goals. Other effective leadership skills include the determination to complete a task. those who are not determined to get things done, may never be interested in completing a job. This may keep an organization from achieving its objectives. A leader needs to be a good listener and have good problem solving skills along with understanding of different situations. By being a good listener, a leader is able to listen to problems openly and find solutions to them. Without listening carefully to a problem, it is difficult to solve it. Hence listening is important. Similarly, a leader should have the skills of problem solving. A leader's mind is one that should be designed to tackle problems after understanding them. Of course mistakes are made, but leaders also need to know how to rectify the mistakes they make and solve the problem completely. Understanding is very important for a leader. Without understanding, it is very difficult for a leader to solve problems. Understanding therefore is the most crucial leadership skill that a leader needs to possess. The effective leadership skills don’t just end at the skills highlighted in the content above. There are dozens of other effective leadership skills that are important for leaders to possess for them to get things done in an organization. Whether a leader possesses these qualities or whether he or she is trained to learn these qualities, all that matters is how the leader uses these qualities for the benefit of the organization.
