Udupi is a land of celestial beauty and lies between the abundant mountains of the Western Ghats on the east and the immense calm Arabian Sea on the west. Udupi, more commonly called ‘Parashurama Srishti; is very popular for its huge cultural inheritance. Udupi is the place of birth of Sri Madhavacharya. He set up the Astha Mathas which is one of the main pilgrimage sites of the state. It is a belief that the name of Udupi is an origination of Odipu, its Tulu name. Whereas some others say that the name is the combination of the Sanskrit words Udu meaning stars and Pa meaning Lord and thus Udupi. Udupi is an authentic treasure trove of tourist’s pleasures. One can find a blazing layout of antediluvian graven temples, modern splendid architectural buildings, beautiful hill chains, pure forests, unending beaches and very friendly people. Udupi is notable for the Krishna Temple, and lends its name to the popular Udupi cuisine. Spirit worship known as Bhuta kola and Snake worship known as Nagaradhane are the most important cultural traditions in Udupi. Apart from this Aati Kalanja, Karangolu and other festivals like Diwali and Christmas are also celebrated in Udupi. Udupi is better known as the seat of Madhwa rebirth which was founded by the saint Madhwacharya. The outcome of this foundation is Ashtamathas which is situated in the famous Car Street which surrounds the Sri Krishna Temple. Many travel companies offers Religious Tours packages at cheaper rates that include all your travel and hotel accommodation. The term Udupi (also Udipi) is also synonymous with delicious vegetarian food now found all over world (see Udupi cuisine). The origin of this cuisine is linked to Krishna Matha (Mutt). Lord Krishna is offered food of different varieties every day, and there are certain restrictions on ingredients during Chaturmasa (a four-month period during the monsoon season). These restrictions coupled with the requirement of variety led to innovation, especially in dishes incorporating seasonal and locally available materials. This cuisine was developed by Shivalli Madhwa Brahmins who cooked food for Lord Krishna, and at Krishna Matha in Udupi, the food is provided free. Restaurants specialized in Udupi tour package cuisine can be seen widely in most metropolitan and large cities around the length and breadth of India. There are several festivals during which huge crowds of locals as well as outsiders gather in Udupi. Major airport nearby is Mangalore Bajpe airport holidays , which is nearly 60 km away. Mangalore airport is connected to many cities India. Udupi railway station lies on the Konkan Railway line connecting Mangalore to Mumbai. Udupi is well connected with other neighboring cities by Karnataka Road Transport Corporation buses. Regular bus services are available from Mangalore to Udupi. Tourist bus service providers ply luxury buses between Mumbai, Bangalore and Mangalore holiday packages .
