NYC trunk shows can take place in most any shop but are common in department stores and boutiques. Trunk shows serve a few purposes but the main one is to give insight to the artist or designer about their line. If a product doesn't get good reviews at a trunk show the sponsor may have time to stop massive production for a failing product. Usually, clients and invited guests who attend one of NYC trunk shows have the opportunity to purchase and/or order the new line of products at the show, thus giving them a jump on their competition for the top selling products. It also helps the guests decide what part of the line will benefit their business and which ones not to supply. NYC trunk shows are just for the famous either, new artists or designers can get licensed to promote their goods and initiate their own trunk show. Artists and designers have the opportunity to introduce themselves and their wares at a trunk show. These shows work well for those who produce one-of-a-kind pieces. Of course one would need to partner up with a shop owner(s) to have a trunk show. This partnership usually provides some free advertising for the shop and in most cases the shop owner would get up to 30% of the artists total sales from the sale. A lot of the smaller shops are more than willing to provide their location under these terms. Those putting on these special events can do so during the day and even at night. There are often refreshments and/or appetizers being served at most of the NYC trunk shows. There are quite a few benefits to all involved in a trunk show. Needless to say it can bring funds to the sponsors (artist and shop owner), provide information on what will sell and what won't, promote the shop and the wares, and give the customers a first hand look and early ordering of a new product line.
