Bipolar 1 disorder is a mental illness in which a person either experiences recurrent bouts of mania and depression. Mania and depression are also episodic though and it is mostly prevalent in people belonging to the age group of 15 to 24. The condition seems to deteriorate with the passage of time and severe bipolar 1 disorder victims even turns suicidal often leading to death.

The reasons behind the disorder are still a huge territory of research and doctors encounter cases where the causes of the disorder remain a lifelong mystery. Having said all this, still we would like to emphasize on the fact that there are certain reasons like stress, drug addiction and genetic disorder that have been found to be some major causes triggering the acute mental illness.

Some of the symptoms that are seen in the manic bouts of a bipolar 1 disorder are hyperactivity and elevated energy levels. Just the opposite of the same is seen when a victim is experiencing depression, i.e. they suffer from negative feelings, irritability and low energy levels. One needs to understand that this is a severe form of mental illness so any type of laxity shown in the diagnosis and treatment can make the disease worse.

If you know someone who is suffering from the problem of Bipolar 1 disorder then it is best to consult the physician without any delay. The right diagnosis is a very important part of the treatment, and proper diagnosis can help in the earlier recovery. One thing must be mentioned over here - it is not possible to completely get rid of the mania or depression but the degree of the same can be certainly reduced with proper and quick treatment.
