CV writing is an art that not everyone possesses, and that is where professional CV writers come into the picture. At the same time, writing a CV is not rocket science and a good CV does not mean following set rules. Understand that a CV is just a tool that works toward the one particular goal of obtaining an interview. The sole purpose of a CV is to market yourself so that an employer "buys" you. All that a CV needs in order to be great, is to be effective, relevant, and informative so that it catches the employer's attention among the many other CVs on his desk. The CV writing process is a serious affair. A CV works as a representative that speaks about your professionalism, skills, and how they can be beneficial to the company in a given scenario. Now that we know what effective CV writing is primarily for, let us also see what it is not meant for. A CV is a precise and short summary written about yourself, which keeps in mind an employer's likes and dislikes. However, do not write a CV just for the heck of it. A CV says a lot about an individual's personality and the right one for the right job could lead to getting your dream job. - As said earlier, a CV need not be in a typed format, but it is about what the company wants and not your creativity alone. Some changes here and there can always be done, but keeping it professional and acceptable to all businesses is a must. While different types of CVs exist, they can be broadly categorized by the style in which they are formatted: Basic formatting is a commonly used style that most recruiters accept. Highlight your goals, strengths, qualifications, and job experiences on a priority basis. This CV format can be used in cases when no particular format is demanded by the company. - Chronological formatting emphasizes an individual's work experience, commencing with your present job, followed by previous jobs in reverse chronological order. Educational qualifications, followed by additional skills and other information come next. When writing a CV, never hesitate to show off how valuable you could be to the company if recruited. - Skill formatting emphasizes an individual's skills, especially those that align to the job opening. This type of formatting is perfect when applying to a field in which you have no past experience, or when you have had big gaps between your past jobs. Show the recruiter how your skills could benefit the company. - Combination or targeted formatting is best described as a CV style that targets the functions, skills, and experience required for a particular position. This style presents related skills and experience in a way that shows how suitable a candidate is for a specific job.
