Do you give in to cravings? Are you frustrated by cravings and don’t understand how you get them when you eat so well? What are cravings actually telling us? Do you ever crave sugar, fat or salts and even though you satisfy your salivating taste buds, the cravings keep coming back? Cravings… • Spicy • Sweet • Savory • Salty • Crunchy • Chewy Cravings can be mild and friendly or downright ruthless, grabbing hold of you and refusing to let go. You experience cravings when your body lacks nutrients or minerals. Cravings are your body’s way of telling you that it needs something. Craving sugar? You may be dehydrated! Drinking enough water? Craving salt? You may need more sleep or minerals. Make a healthy choice, like a rice cake with avocado and a bit of sea salt, to satisfy your salt craving. Do you know that you experience seasonal cravings? To satisfy the natural cravings, try these: Winter: Good fats (avocado, almonds, flaxseed or olive oils, raw butter), heavy, hot, warming foods Spring: Cleansing foods to release toxins (dark green leafy vegetables, lemon, cucumber, ginger) Summer: Cooling fruits and vegetables Fall:Grounding foods (root vegetables) Don’t be afraid of good fats! You need to eat good fats to burn more fat! When you have a craving, ASK YOUR BODY what it really wants! Make healthy choices to satisfy cravings. By making the choices that your body is really asking for when you have a craving, your taste buds can experience an extreme makeover and complete overhaul. Accept and understand your cravings and give your body what it’s asking for. Listen to your body, and if your craving isn’t really about food… Amp up your creativity, slow down and find time for yourself, make a healthy choice and NOURISH other areas of your life – exercise, relationships, career, and spirituality.
