Despite the fact that there are a number of distinctly different types of drug rehab programs, most people are only familiar with those that they have seen on television. Programs like celebrity rehab showcase powerful or famous people as they struggle through what most people refer to as an inpatient drug rehab. These programs generally last 28-30 days, but can vary considerably depending on the individual and how severe their drug or alcohol problem is. However, these programs are often portrayed inaccurately by Hollywood and the media, and few discuss or showcase the other types of drug rehab programs. In all, there are 3 types of rehab centers: inpatient rehab, partial hospitalization programs and outpatient treatment. Understanding the differences can help addicts choose which program is best for their particular situation. Residential Inpatient Substance Abuse Treatment An inpatient program is the program that most people are familiar with. During treatment individuals who attend this type of rehab will be required to live and receive treatment in the same supervised facility. Clients will be expected to cook, clean and shop for themselves as well as attend all appointments and actively participate in groups and other therapies. The duration of these programs vary according to the individual, but may be as long as 30, 60 or even 90 days. Addicts or alcoholics attending treatment for the very first time (especially after a severe and extended bout of active use) may require more treatment time, whereas people that have just relapsed may require less. Partial Hospitalization Rehab Centers These programs are aptly named: patients attended supervised, intense therapies during the day and then are transported to (also supervised) clean and sober housing arrangements in the evening. Therapies and other treatments may require homework that is to be done during the evening, and in some cases clients may be required to attend treatment over the weekend. All of this is in an effort to keep the person free from not only drugs and alcohol, but also the environments and people that are associated with drug use. Partial hospitalization programs are also referred to as day/night programs, and act as an excellent step-down from an inpatient treatment program. Outpatient Drug and Alcohol Rehab Programs Many people who complete an inpatient program or a PHP (partial hospitalization program) choose to slowly reintegrate to society by attending an outpatient program. During this type of treatment patients receive intensive therapies during the day and return to their regular homes and lives during the evening unless otherwise mandated. This type of program is also useful for someone who recently relapsed and needs a fast treatment program to get back on track. Types of Therapies Regardless of the type of drug or alcohol abuse treatment program a person attends, the therapies used are generally the same and include: *Evidence based practices *Cognitive behavioral therapy *Reality therapy *Psychoanalysis *Group therapy *Family therapy *Individual therapy *Biofeedback If you or someone you love is suffering from addiction and you need help choosing what type of treatment, please use the links below to speak to someone right now – regardless of where you live or what time it is.

Science is, at its core, a process—a framework for testing questions about the world with detailed and structured observations of it to gain knowledge and understanding. Contrary to what some may believe, the scientific process has always been a universal one, accessible to the common people, even if the largest and most newsworthy discoveries are usually left to those with greater time and resources. However, with modern technologies like AI, that reality is primed for rad
