Chamba was founded in 10th century. It is original name is Champa. It is said that Raja Sahil Varman annexed from Ranas and Thakurs in the beginning of 10th century. This land of antique, art and picturesque beauty, tucked at a height of 996 meter from the sea level. The hill station got name after Champavati – the beloved daughter of Raja Sahil Verma who founded the kingdom. Let us see some of the most picturesque places of this tranquil hill station. Pangi ValleyrnPangi Valley the tranquil valley is abundant with of grandeur and colorful tribal life is tucked away 173 km from Chamba via Sach Pass (4414 m). This picturesque valley is bounded by Peer Panjal & Zanskar ranges and is a subdivision of Chamba district. One can reach out this valley through high mountain passes namely Sach, Chehni and Rohtang Pass. Killar headquarter of this beautiful valley. The valley is ideal for adventure lovers and its difficult of terrain makes it a perfect destination for adventure lovers. The valley is open for tourist for six month only and other six month is remains blocked because of snow fall. The best season to travel is between May to October. You can also visit areas like Sural, Saichu, Kumar-Parmar, Hundan and Sechu during your visit to this valley. This beautiful holyday spot is well connected with Zanskar. Here local residences are mostly Hindu’s with a small handful of Buddhist religion. Those people who dwell in higher areas are called as Bhatoris such as Sural Bhatori, Hundan Bhatori, Parmar Bhatori, Chasak Bhatori and Hilu-Twan. Here you will find number of trekking trails starting from Pangi valley to Keylong (Lahaul valley), Manali (Kullu) and Kishtwar in Kashmir. This valley is perfect hill stations of India. BharmaurrnLocated 65 km from the main district of Chamba lies the land of legendary Gaddies i.e. Bharmaur. It is said that it was the main seat of power of this beautiful holyday destination for nearly 400 years till the capital was transferred to Chamba. Means to say it the earlier capital. There are many archaeological remains, mostly the temples. It is said that Siddhas came from Kurukshetra and visited Manimahesh meditated here. Lakshna Devi and Ganesh is the oldest temple both the temple is carved out in the hill style with gable roofs and rubble masonry. The outer facade, the inner facade of sanctum, circum ambulatory path and the ceiling are gracefully engraved. Here the idol of Lakshna Devi as a Mahisasurmardini is magnificently carved and idol is very beautiful to look at. Manimahesh Shikhara style temple is the tallest temple in the whole area on a raised platform. In this temple of you will find a real life size bronze statue of Nandi. It is said that this idols are said to be of 10th century erected during the regain of Raja Meru Varman. The other important temple in this style is Nar Singh. Lord Vishnu in his avatar as Nar Singh has been cast vividly. It is said that these idols are believed to work Gugga master craftsman. Devotees come here to take a dip in the holy rivers of Ardh Ganda.
