Unified communications, in logical sense is a collaborative layer that sits above the already existing IP communications network. With adoption of this technology, you can access the client information, be it real time or be it non real time, all through a single device you own.
The strategies of Unified Communication include the intersecting streams of video, audio and instant messaging. Unified communication is still improving itself to incorporate more advanced versions of activity streaming, tele-presence awareness with click to call.
Cisco has recently brought a new social networking platform to the market. It has been named Quad. The basic idea of Quad is to integrate the concept of tele-presence and conferencing in the popular social networking sites like facebook; integration the activity streams, blogs, and other social features behind the security of a firewall so that a user can have a one stop solution to communicate with friends and loved ones. This amalgamation has been done to make a solution that can have the best of both the worlds, i.e. the popularity of social media with the functional advantages and ease of using unified communications so that the resultant product is used and appreciated by people of all the age groups across the world and it is recognized as a benchmark in social networking media.
This provides us the capability to connect and communicate without even having to replace the Hosted PBX software being currently used or the hassles of interconnecting each and every UC application.
Unified Communication uses the concept of SIP session management which offers the ability to simplify the business communications by integration of diverging communication applications and thus delivering the capability of Unified Communications. SIP session management sits at the core of all the SIP based applications like IP PBX, video conferencing systems and tele-presence capabilities to offer the end user with centralized control, scalability and access to SIP Trunking. Due to this technological innovation, the challenge of operating a multi-vendor, multi-protocol telecom device to easily connect with various SIP based applications. Moreover, this session management layer connects all the distributed PBXs with the SIP session manages that governs the session over all these devices. This reduces both, the cost and complexity for SIP Trunking and it enables the ability to manage the calls according to time of the day, work load and source of the call so that the best possible services can be delivered to the one who calls on the SIP device. So, if your communication system has distributed PBXs and you want to follow a centralized approach, you should start investigating the SIP session management techniques.
Many companies have already started having distinguishable profits, ranging to even 90% in few cases, just by cutting on their audio conferencing expenses by employing SIP session management to integrate a SIP based conferencing bridge with its telecommunication system.
The concept is simple and can save you millions. It is the future of all the business. If you can take the benefits of using Unified Communication, Unified call routing, presence aggregation, SIP Trunking and its multifarious applications and enjoy with your federated business communication system without having to replace your legacy telecom system or individually segregating each UC application, I don’t that you can have something better in this cost.
