Penrith is a town in the north west of England. It is a market town, which lies north of River Eamont . Other rivers touching the town are river Lowther and river Petteril. Penrith has been dividing into 6 wards such as the Penrith West, Penrith North, Penrith South, Penrith East, Penrith Carleton and Penrith Pategill. The climate in this northwesterly town of England is maritime in nature.
Some important buildings located in the city are the St Andrew’s church, which has a Grecian style of architecture. The churchyard is marked by the presence of hogback tombstones and crosses. The Penrith castle in its dilapidated condition is visible from the nearby Railway station. This castle is now a Heritage site. The town has the Brougham Castle which has also been declared as a Heritage site. One can see the famous ancient henge sites, which have also been declared as Heritage sites. The henge usually comprises of Mayburgh henge as well as King Arthur’s Round Table. The centre of the town is marked by the presence of Clock Tower. Penrith is marked by the presence of many wells here and there in the town. Beacon Hill with its woodland is an important place of recreation for tourist. Penrith’s marketplace has King Kongonce statue made of fiberglass. Those who are planning a visit to Penrith can avail some fast train service from towns such as London, Manchester, Glasgow, Birmingham and Edinburgh. National Express has the stoppage at Penrith for two of its coaches which are of long distance in operation. Penrith also falls on the route of National Cycle Network. Visitors can avail the Taxi facility and vacation home rentals of the town with one of the main one being on Sandgate and the other next to the Railway Station. Some of the notable persons of English society were the produce of Penrith. Mother of William Wordsworth once lived in this town. Francis Trollope also lived for sometime In Penrith. Some of its other notable residents were George Leo Haydock , Samuel Plimsoll, John Loudon Macadam, Charlie Hunnam to name a few. Entertainment in Penrith is usually limited to public houses as it is an agricultural town. The town has the presence of some branded stores, with the market days being Tuesday & Saturday. Those visitors who want to be on a shopping spree can visit the Middlegate, Devonshire Street, Little Dockray, Cornmarket, Devonshire Arcade, Angel Lane and Angel square. There are some interesting eateries that are available at some renowned outlets such as the Greggs, Dominos Pizza, and Lilliput Lane. Penrith has the presence of supermarket store of Sainsbury. For accommodation vacation rentals are a very good idea.
If you have a plan to visit Penrith in May, then be sure that you are there on the first Monday of this month, because you will be witness to the Mayday carnival. This Carnival consists of a parade, fairground rides and street dancers. The parade usually comprises of around thirty floats, marching band, local celebrities and vintage cars. Ullswater Community College is the starting point of this parade and the car park at the bus station is the culminating point of this parade.
