Take a look at your prayer life. What sort of things do you pray about? Have you noticed that the nature of your prayer requests reveal the conditions of your heart? Perhaps you are struggling with financial hardship and desire to find security. Maybe you are facing an important life decision and are having trouble finding peace in the midst of it. Sometimes it’s difficult to understand why we experience the things we do, but be assured that the Lord is faithful to all those who truly follow Him. Whatever is on your heart, you can lift up your prayer request to Him. Here are some amazing examples of prayer in the Bible: King Solomon, a king of Israel, was best known for his incredible wealth of wisdom. This wisdom did not come from years of studying but instead, it was something that he prayed for and God blessed him with it. The man could have asked for longevity or all the riches in the world but he asked for wisdom. What a guy. Well guess what? Even though he did not ask for worldly riches, God gave it to him anyway. The man indulged himself in every possible pleasure, building houses and vineyards and amassing enormous amounts of financial wealth. He sought wisdom first and in the end was also rewarded for it. In the story of Daniel, there was a king named Darius and at one point, he decreed that no one should pray to any god or man except for him for thirty days (Talk about insecurity). Daniel disregarded the king’s orders and continued to regularly pray to God anyway and of course, his disobedience had repercussions. As punishment, he was thrown into a pit of lions. Let me clarify. This was not The Lion King. We are talking about 500 pounds of terror hardwired to claw at and tear anything that moves and he was in a den with more than one. Just like with King Solomon, Daniel’s obedience to God was rewarded as well. He emerged from the den completely unharmed and was set free. rnThese are just a couple of examples of prayer in the Bible. Through the story of King Solomon and Daniel, we see that God blesses those who obediently pursue Him. This also reveals more of God’s character as a loving father who wants to bless his children. Solomon didn’t need extraordinary amounts of wealth but God gave it to him anyway and just like how a father would instinctively protect his child from harm, God rescued Daniel from the lion’s den.
