As some of you may know, I have a class coming up called the Nourished Body. It’s a class that will alter your relationship to food and your body, to foster your health and your sense of vitality. I want to share with you a tip we will be exploring in more detail in the class… When we are kids, we are full of aliveness, full of Self expression and innocent awareness. Then as we age, we are asked to “think” our way through life – that “thinking” our way through life is how we can be safe and be accepted in the world. So we apply this “thinking” strategy to our food and eating behaviours. Unfortunately, this isn’t a very fun nor a nourishing way to be with ourselves when it comes to our food and our bodies. Because when we “think” or figure out in our heads what we should and should not be eating, or what our bodies should or should not look like, we are using the part of our brain that is NOT biologically designed to address these questions. The questions about what foods can sustain and support our bodies, comes from a part of the brain that is directed connected to the nervous system that extends into the tissues, cells and organs of the body. The mental, more cognitive part of the brain can not help us attune to the wisdom of the body and what it wants for food and nourishment. In addition, it can not access the potent sense of empowerment available to us within the body. We must learn to stopping thinking and trying to figure out in our heads what will fix our problem eating, chronic dieting, or struggles with the lack of consistency with a way of eating. Instead it is important to harness the power of the body and the non-mental aspects of the brain that foster awareness, presence and body attunement. This will get you much further with your efforts towards a healthy communion with your body and with food. Food is here to support and sustain our bodies, but when we are using the “analysis” sections of the brain to foster our relating to food, we struggle to understand and see this fact. Yet like any muscle, you can build your skill towards attunement and healthy balanced relating. The Nourished Body class is going to teach you skills to wake up the parts of the brain that can make this healthy relating happen ~ to enable a strong sense of embodiment and empowerment. Class starts Thursday, July 7 – 7:30-9pm at the Britannia BodyWorks. To register, call ~ 403.243.6610.rnSee you there!
