Iron or steel is more popularly used to make outdoor, heavy-duty, function-oriented spiral staircases and not to improve your home’s aesthetic appeal. As the years progressed, however, architects and interior designers started to use iron to create elaborate centerpieces for both homes and buildings in order to update and improve their aesthetic pull and at the same time creating objects of forceful interest. Iron continues to serve the same purpose to this day. In fact, iron stairs are now looking more like sculptures than structures. They are being shaped into figures never before associated with the function of stairs because the characteristics of iron alloy allows this so. Iron is flexible, malleable and ductile yet it is one of the strongest alloys used in architecture. Iron alloy, being malleable and ductile, can be shaped in a variety of shapes and sizes, providing for both designers and architects a flexible material to execute elaborate, intricate or complexly simple designs. One famous piece is a tall helical structure made of thick sheets of steel stair treads, separately welded to intersect one tall very slightly helical sheet that is the supporting pillar. Iron stairs are quickly becoming a hit in the homes of a lot of people. They can be made into intricately elaborate or simple and clean structures. They can also be effectively used as functional yet beautiful railings, with limitless options for designs—from iron rods, to baroque-inspired, to vines, to weeds, to butterflies, and the list goes on. The material has the ability to literally bend to the homeowner’s desires, that’s why iron stairs are usually custom made. The material allows homeowners to match their update with their original structure, creating more character in a certain space. The material can also be combined with other materials like wood and glass to create interesting structures. Thus, if you wish to update the look of your home without breaking the bank while still getting the maximum look and feel, opt for an interesting iron structure creating unusual stairs. Iron stairs and railings can express a high level of creativity that can yield for your home a unique kind of beauty and charm.
