UPSC Exams: Geology and Indian Economic Service

Union Public Service Commission is well known for its recruitments. All its recruitments are based solely on the performance of the candidate in the exam and the interview. UPSC is the main body behind recruitments in all important services of the government like Civil Services, Combined Service, and National Defence Academy etc. UPSC also conducts examinations to recruit candidates for the non-technical posts of various government departments like Geologists and Indian Economic Service. Geologist Exam: • The Geologist Exam is conducted every year by UPSC. It is usually conducted in the month of December and recruits candidates for the post of geologists in the Central Government Organization. • Two categories of geologists are recruited through this exam. Firstly, it recruits Junior Geologists for Geological Survey of India and it also recruits candidates for Central Ground Water Board and Ministry of Water Resources. • The Geologist exam is followed by a personality test. The main syllabus included in the exam is, Geology Paper 1, Geology paper 2, Geology paper 2, General English, Hydrogeology. • Candidates who have Masters' Degree in Geology or Applied Geology from a recognized university can apply for this exam. Also, those who have a diploma in Mineral Exploration or Hydrogeology can apply for the Geologist Exam. Indian Economic Service Exam: • By conducting the Indian Economic Service Exam every year, UPSC recruits many candidates for grade IV officers for posting in the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Planning Board, Planning Commission, National Sample Survey and other Allied Offices. • The main subjects included in the exam are Indian Economics, General Economics 1, General Economics 2, General Economics 3, General Studies and General English. • Candidates between the age of 21 years to 30 years can apply for the Indian Economic Service Exam. Also, he/she must be a post graduate from a recognized university in Economics, Business Economics, and Applied Economics etc. Thus, both the exams, Indian Economic Service Exam and Geology Exam are conducted by UPSC and are very challenging. Out of thousands of candidates who apply for these exams, only a few are chosen. Apart from your educational qualifications, you must have thorough knowledge of these respective fields, in order to clear this exam and the interview that follows.
