This is not a tourist. There are no tourists, no Antiques by young people who want to give you a tour of the modest fee surveys. I take only a few of our guests, who have day to spare, who wants to see the real Africa, and especially for people who want to exit the vehicle because they are tired of sitting, and they want to stretch their legs.
From Moshi town the best way to experience this mountain village is here to go to the local people for local transport. Not as daunting as you think. Otherwise, just drive here, but you do loose part of the adventure, but in addition it is cheating
Local bus from Moshi and only five minutes from the city center bus begins its assent upwards and then to Uru. As we Kilimanjaro it rains a lot and this is green and fertile - there are a lot of banana and coffee trees here. Just before the bus finally gives up, we pass a huge ancient Roman Catholic Church, which, it seems that this parameter.
The bus finally shudders to stop, but the journey is not over yet. From here there is 15-20 minutes walk. Ever upward, not flat ground or up and down the legs of the trip that usually means that the walk up the hill.
There are some spectacular views, glimpsed through the trees of Moshi Town far far away
below. It is cooler here and so very quiet. I like to visit this place no tourists at all. Everyone is very friendly, and you really feel you are experiencing something special, something that not many tourists get to see.
There are still some large traditional houses here are made of dried banana leaves - no windows, only one door and chimney in the center of this traditional home. Usually there will be four rooms inside, and it is very dark and smoky.
The higher you go the trees begin to thin as you approach the tree line. It is hard to take it all in culture, greenness, African mountains are just so very special. Be careful to look where you are going and where you stand. Avoid large ants you can see the lines, scurrying back and forth - they travel in straight lines and accidentally stood on one of these lines - ants [large ants] will climb up your legs and begins to chew. Just keep an eye out for them.
After a few hours spent here, exploring the small lines that wind up and down the hill is worth the effort to walk. It is also an enjoyable experience to dine with a local family before returning to the mountain. This is a cultural visit but without any way contrived. You feel that it is culture, without realizing it, when you were a cultural visit.
Only costs incurred by the gift of family time with a meal. To the west, we give flowers or chocolates - here gifts that are more practical, is appreciated. Life is difficult in practice one will be remembered and cherished.
