Every one of us knows about the environment and the ongoing crunch as far as energy is concerned. While most of us would like to be known as environment conscious people, there are not many out there who would actually invest in doing a bit for the cause of energy conservation. A simple way that a home owner can contribute is by considering solar powered lighting fixtures for the home.

There are several ways in which you can incorporate such lighting both in your home and outside as well. The basic concept of solar lighting is placing a photovoltaic panel on your roof, or at a spot that gets that maximum amount of sunlight for the longest period of time a day. This panel will connect to your light fixtures and power them during the night. The lights, if you so choose can be of the intelligent variety where they switch on as and when daylight wanes. They will also turn themselves off if they sense that there is no one in the room.

If you are looking at installing solar lights inside your home, then the best places would be for those areas that are not too well placed in terms of wiring. This can be for your garage, your attic, the tool shed in the garden or even the tree house for the children. All of these places are used sporadically and it would be a waste of resources to connect them to the main power line.

Solar lights can also be used for the outdoors. These can be put in your backyard, lighting up the place when you decide to have an evening bbq. You could use them over your garden and landscaping out front so that people are able to see what you have done with it even at night. You could use the bigger version of lights in those blind spot areas so that they are well illuminated and keep anti-social away from your home.

One of the greatest uses of solar lights is when there is one of those unexpected power outages leaving you totally in the lurch. You can still have the emergency lights in the house powered by solar lighting. In some cases, depending on the strength of your PV panels, you can even power a fan or two.

Solar lighting is one of the best ways in which to conserve energy and give back to the environment what we have been using so selfishly for so long.
