Useful Advices on How to Take Care and How to Clean Your Silver Jewelry!

Silver jewelry has always been woman's favorite accessorize from ancient ages to noways. But this lovely piece of art has a big defect; it tarnishes naturally. As a result our expensive jewelry, after a while seems cheap and damaged. I will help you with some advices, that I have learned all these years that I work on jewelry, on how to take care and how to clean your jewels.

I will begin with the most common but important advice!! Remember to take off your lovely jewelry before cooking or cleaning. It might seem foolish but you could be surprised to know that most people do not do it!! Chlorine and related chemicals can severely discolor and damage jewelry as well as loosen stones!

Now we can continue! Try to protect all jewellery from sharp blows, harsh chemicals, sunlight and extreme temperatures. Sterling silver tarnishes naturally and requires occasionally cleaning. Storing your jewelry in plastic bags with an interlocking seal when not in use slows the tarnishing process. Do not store Pearls in plastic bags!!!! Store jewellery separately so it will not scratch other jewels. Cultured pearls are best stored in a special soft pouch.

Polish Sterling Silver, and other precious metals carefully with a Polishing Cloth. If you don't have a Polishing Cloth simple do this; A mild soap and water solution used with a soft brush is effective for many jewelry care needs. Although soap and water is the best choice for most gems and jewelry, do not use soap and water with amber, coral, emerald, jade, lapis lazuli, opal, or turquoise. Another method for cleaning silver jewelry (without other components) is using hot water, baking soda, and aluminium foil placed in a glass dish.Place the foil at the bottom of the glass dish. Put your silver jewelry directly on the foil. After a few minutes wipe your silver jewelry with a cotton cloth ( better with a 100% cotton cloth).

I'm sure you have been told to clean your silver jewelry using toothpaste. Well, that is correct! The easiest and quicker way to clean your silver jewelry. BUT remember! The brush must be really really soft or you will scratch the silver.

And now some clever tips!!!:-)

1. Put jewelry on after using cosmetics, hair spray or perfumes to avoid contact with chemicals which may cause damage.

2. Wipe jewelry with a soft cloth after each wearing to remove oils and salts. This is especially important for pearls!!!

3. Do not forget to wear one in many your pearls. It takes moisture from your skin to keep their color and shine!!:-)

4. All of our sterling silver jewelry can be cleaned with a pencil eraser! Do not use the eraser on semi-precious gemstones ( pearls, coral, opals,lapis lazuli etc). Just wipe them with a soft and moist cloth.
