To support the envisioned accomplishments of a group or collective, someone is required to lead them to victory. To effectively take the reins on a project, a leadership philosophy should be written out and followed by the person taking the commanding role. This helps to ensure that you know the direction you'd like to take, as well as the steps you'll likely take to once you're headed there. However, a leadership philosophy can be used in more than just corporate and group-based settings. Knowing how you would like to accomplish your life goals and becoming a leader for your own life is an important step as any promotion. The philosophy you develop will not only help you overcome adversity on a day-to-day basis, but will help you to lead a happier and more successful life in general. In order to properly understand and articulate your leadership philosophy, it will need to be under constant revision. An old or outdated version will only lead to frustration on the part of both the person in charge and the people under their supervision. Take the time to edit and refine your philosophy on a somewhat regular basis to ensure you're using the most effective techniques for your situation. For example, the philosophy adopted or developed by an entrepreneur will be quite different from a student completing their coursework in college or university. The key concepts will remain the same, but the route taken to their eventual success will vary quite wildly. As different situations arise, different techniques will need to be applied to ensure you come out on top. Various approaches are available, and many more are developed by aspiring leaders each day. The most common include positive reinforcement and the functional theories. They also happen to be on complete opposite ends of the spectrum. Positive reinforcement is common enough that it has become a household phrase. Trainers use the technique on pets and children in order to get the desired result or reactions from them. By rewarding "good" behavior and ignoring or explaining "bad" behavior, the person utilising the theory postulates that those under their charge will begin to naturally tend toward "good" behaviors. The functional theory rests on the idea that an effective leader will take charge of and provide anything the group needs to function cohesively. This means that any questions will need to be answered thoroughly and any supplies must be provided. By adopting this theory, you ensure the group will have everything necessary to complete a task. Though there are many more methods available, the best thing you can do is consider what you'd like to accomplish, and how to go about it. The most effective leaders use the power of their own minds to utilize the most effective techniques for their situations. A leadership philosophy is not something to be taken lightly, as it can have a huge impact on your life. Be sure to put in the effort required to use the methods you adopt or create, as success only comes to those who try for it.
