I threw out my microwave oven around ten years ago because I felt there were were too many questions over how safe it was to my health. I am really glad I did that. Of course, using a microwave oven is very handy as it saves a lot of time. But, to be honest, I don't miss it at all. It had simply become a bad habit.

As you know, microwave ovens cook food super fast. This is achieved as microwave ovens use radio waves at a specifically set frequency to agitate water molecules in food. As these water molecules get increasingly agitated they begin to vibrate at the atomic level and generate heat. This heat is what actually cooks food in the oven. It is a very aggressive way of cooking your food, and also very unnatural. The process breaksdown chemical and molecular bonds, and can rip atoms apart, altering the structure of our food.

Promotes Malnutritionr
Swiss scientist, Hans Hertel, conducted a study to find out what impact microwaved food had on people's blood. He found out that altering the structure of food by microwaving it, leads to a significant lack of nutrients. This can lead to malnutrition, leaving people more prone to disease and illness.

Promotes Ill Health
Dr. Hertel also found that microwaved food increased cholesterol levels, decreased both red and white blood cell counts, decreased hemoglobin, and produced radiolytic compounds. These dangerous compounds harm the body in many ways.

Carcinogens in Foodr
The Russians banned microwave ovens in the 1970's after thorough research. Although Russians are now allowed to own a microwave oven, the fact that the government once banned them might surprise you. Russian researchers found that carcinogens were formed from the microwaving of nearly all of the foods they tested.

Microwaves Can Leak with Old Door Sealsr
Imagine what microwave radiation could do to your body with it capable of deforming, impairing, and tearing the molecules apart from your food. This is a real risk if your microwave oven leaks. As your microwave oven gets older, it's door seal can leak out microwave radiation. That’s something to be conce
ed about as microwave energy inside a microwave oven is extremely high, and it only takes a small leak to start harming your body:

Frequency inside your microwave is 2.45 BILLION hertz.
Frequency shown to start harming the human body is only over 10 hertz.
Radiation Damager
But even if your microwave oven is new and in excellent condition, consider that standing a foot away from it while it's running can expose you to upwards of 400 milliGauss, and a mere 4 milliGauss has been firmly linked to leukemia.

Harmful Effects of Microwave Ovens:

Weakened immune systemr
Lowered resistance to bacterial and viral infectionsr
Cataracts
Irregular heart beatr
Birth defectsr
Cancer
Many other serious illnesses

The best solution is to throw away your microwave oven, adopting healthier cooking habits:

Get organised so you can cook your meals in a regular ovenr
Eat more raw foods which do not need to be heatedr
Buy a turbo oven. A turbo oven can replace your microwave oven as it doesn't cause any of the negative health effects, and allows you to prepare meals in half the time of traditional ovensr
Cook in bulk with a regular oven so you have meals for a couple of days at a time

If you refuse to throw away your microwave oven, there are still things you can do to limit it's damage:

Significantly limit it's user
Avoid standing too close to your microwave oven when it is workingr
If you are pregnant, avoid using a microwave and when it is working be as far away from it as possibler
Avoid letting your children stand anywhere near the microwave while it's runningr
Make sure you replace old microwave ovens as the seal ages

However, I would say, why expose yourself and your family to the potential risks of cooking with the microwave oven? Be bold and throw it away!

About the Author

Hello. My name is Lorna Balfour, I am a female personal trainer and lifestyle coach offering personal training in London. I would like to tell you a little bit about my background and outlook. As a child I had a very active life but I was a wee bit overweight and had very little energy. I used to struggle to get out of bed every day. My diet was shocking, lots of processed foods and too little fruit and vegetables. Angel Delight is not something I have eaten since.

After I graduated from university I started to exercise in the gym and made radical changes to my diet, which had been quite poor. I lost 21 pounds of weight. I felt fantastic.

After this transformatio
I moved from Scotland to London and decided to re-qualify as a personal trainer, because I felt it would be deeply satisfying to help other people achieve their fitness goals. And, if I can do it, so can anyone else. I work in Shoreditch because its close to Old Street, Moorgate and Liverpool Street, which makes my fitness studio easier to reach. Shoreditch is also one of the trendiest parts of London which makes it even nicer to work there.

I also studied lifestyle coaching, including nutritional coaching. The approach to my eating completely changed after that. I focused more on the quality rather than quantity of what I was eating and drinking. Out went the microwave, McDonalds and Diet Cokes. I feel even healthier now.

I love my training, it is a part of my life now. My training is focused on strength training and body toning. I mainly use dumbbells and olympic bars, which might sound quite scary. However, my approach to training is calm and relaxed. Exercise and training should be fun and be about promoting your overall health. I don't think worrying about how many calories you have burned on the treadmill, or comparing yourself to some airbrushed image is healthy.

Movement is one of the most honest forms of self-connection. The body never lies. It holds stress, records emotion, and reveals when something feels off. For many, this is why exercise has always been more than fitness; it’s therapy through motion. But not all movement heals. Some styles exhaust, others distract. True healing often begins in the slow, intentional kind, the kind that lets the body lead and the mind follow.rnThat’s where precision-based training, such as re
