In the speedy technological development of the society, time consumption and multitasking has innovated the concept of server ‘Virtualization’. Virtual Private server exemplifies Internet hosting service and is logically a virtual dedicated server which can be provided at cheaper cost.
Web hosting services are predominantly of three types .It includes Shared hosting, Dedicated hosting, and Virtual hosting. In Shared hosting your site is hosted on a shared server which concurrently runs several other websites. The customer shares all the resources of the server including RAM, Disk space, CPU and even the cost of server maintenance. Clients with large business transaction needs dedicated hosting server for maintaining the uncontrollable traffic drive of their web sites. An entire server is allocated to you and maintained under your prudence.
Virtual Private Server hosting is a way between dedicated hosting and shared hosting. It appears to the user as a dedicated server but in reality it is installed in a computer serving multiple websites. VPS hosting finds its root in virtualization model where single server is segregated in such a way that appears as a multiple server. VPS hosting provides your site with its own RAM and Disk space but share the same processing capacity or CPU with a definite number of other sites. Different providers give distinct packages of services such as server level customization and varied support levels. Pre-installation of antithetic sever level software can also be allowed. Some providers enrich their services by making provision for ‘Burstable memory’, which is pool of RAM reserved for exceptional events. At times you may have myriad number of visitors using your site. ’Burstable memory ‘helps anticipate such situations by using the reserved, shared memory for the unexpected high traffic drive. Each virtual private server can run its own operating system with independent rebooting. This operating system shares the resources of the physical server and uses an emulated and virtualized set of hardware. The physical server runs a hyper version which creates, releases, and manages the operating system of the virtual server. These hyper versions are modified to analyze, translate, frame and convert the request from the operating system into appropriate resource request of the host. Virtual private server makes the use of hosting softwares such as Web Server program, a File Transfer Protocol, a Mail server program and other specific activity oriented applications.
Virtual private server is the most modish and popular application in the server hosting technology for the following aspects:
- VPS hosting is accepted by majority of small business in need for an organised website but are hindered by the high cost of dedicated server hosting.
- It assures high security as it only uses a shared processing but individual servers are classified from each other.
- The business can run its legacy application of the newer applications along with the older version of an operating system.
- A single subscriber can maintain multiple virtual server
An individual with high business aspiration, normally maintaining multiple sites with large amount of files and vibrant information, considers VPS adaption most suitable for further business augmentation.
